How do people learn their jobs? There is barely any training, zero mentoring, and getting somebody to talk to you, including your own manager, takes an Act of Congress. What kind of leadership doesn't even try to make sure the new people know what they're doing before sending them into the fray?

What "fray" are you referring to? Because if this is about retail what training do you really need to slam worthless products and tell people to order something online?
This.... is..... Verizon Hireless! You will not be trained! You will be forced to use 2.0 and B360 and they will not be fixed! You will be forced to help all the angry customers waiting 90 mins for a samsung that's not in stock until you hate your life and want to end it! Eventually, you will be forced to quit.... Verizon Hireless! Apply today!
Just prepare, pause, confirm. That will fix everything. No need to address the root problems.
And yeah ran into that for years and got out of that group. No talking to co workers or other groups. All must go through manager but manager doesn't respond to phone calls or emails. HR brings out the hammer on you after you try to play the game a bit and escalate proportionally.
Man. I should have quit. What I learned was to create a savings account which is a walk away fund. It's separate from my emergency fund. 3 months loving expenses and additional money to cover cost of certification tests.
I'll walk next time. I hope anyone else that sees this that is in a similar position as I was is able to find something they enjoy and a group that treats them with respect.
They want you to fail... It's that simple. Look up amazon hiring people just to fire them to protect thier friends.... That is you my friend. You are the one who will be fired in a year.
They are mismanaged from the top. As far as the retail structure goes the decisions made in the last year have been apocalyptic. There was ZERO preparation for the pandemic restrictions being lifted causing an influx of customers to understaffed stores. How is this possible ? No empathy for the retail staff currently stressed out because nothing has been implemented to put less strain on any of the stores. They could easily rectify the short staffing by consolidating hours and temporarily close locations until they get people hired. It’s a no brainer but obviously they don’t care about us.
It sounds as if the company is badly mismanaged. After working 48 years at the same employer I found that team work. mentoring, training, and employee communication are top priority for future success. I believe Verizon is more focused on its future profits instead of existence.
Any employer should take head that existence and progress is essentially based on your employees. They can make you or break you.
just put it in the quote
