Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

We are turning into IBM

I left IBM five years ago and one of the reasons was the company's treatment of older employees. I didn't want to find myself over fifty and worried about my job every single day. I got an offer from Oracle and I was more than happy to accept. Now it pains me to see that the situation here has become the same one I tried to get away from. I'm sad to see so many amazing people who have been here for much longer than I have discarded like they don't matter. So much talent and experience thrown away and for what? A short-term profits bump?

Ageism is and has been a huge issue in tech. It lessens a bit when employers are begging for emps. Then it comes back full strength when that situation flips.

It might be corny but in the 15 years I’ve been here I’ve never heard one person say “I like what I do and I like where I work.” I’ve heard numerous friends say that about their jobs with other companies. I cared for so long and then caring burned me out. I don’t know much about IBM. Oracle isn’t a good place to be unless you’re at the top. And by the details in that guy’s case, even that isn’t a good place to be. Wish I didn’t spend so much time here. Always thought the people would change. At least I got that work life balance.

IBM is more like Club Med compared to Oracle

Oracle is far worse than IBM. You haven't been here long enough to know how bad it actually is.

Oracle is a waste of everyone's time and effort. You just need to get out.

LE and SC, at the top management layer, are the ones who created and sets this culture;
At the end of the day, LE and SC work for investors and Wall Street only and for the stock behavior, at any cost, even maybe at the cost of employees lives.
In my opinion, middle management isn’t the one to blame; middle management just does what the top management orders them to do.

I would say two groups are responsible for the culture. Sales and management. Some of the most horrible people I’ve come across in my life, not just my professional life, are in both groups. Years ago I didn’t know better. Now, I stand my ground and tell them right to their “faces” the moment they go down some path. I came in via an acquisition years ago. The mgrs and directors of our GBU are nothing short of thieves and frauds and they know it 100%. They are absolutely hated. I just really don’t know any company, not even tech, that keeps the same stiffs in mgmt as long as Oracle does. These people are the worst. The irony of it is I know they wake up, look in the mirror and say, “what do I even do here? Do I even matter?” The answer is a big no, you don’t. The real leaders need to know we don’t need all this management. Cut them loose and let’s use the money on existing talent.

The best thing that happened to me was getting layoff by Oracle. At the time it was emotional and frustrating but now I see it as a blessing. I got the max severance package and then started a new position making 28K more a year for another company. Who would have thought I had to leave Oracle to get a big pay raise!

Oracle in America is a true western sweatshop: stay away from it.
IBM is more of a membership club in comparison

Oracle probably treats its employees worse than IBM

Yes, Oracle's HR select who should be thrown away. They don't care about the future of the company and the reputation of the company. The most important issue is the reputation. Once you lost it, you will have to rebuilt it for a long time. And Oracle is on the path of damaging it.
