Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

Hiring at BP

Yes, BP is hiring. How do I know? Because they reached out to me to tell me that I had moved to the next level of interviews. What was that level? I had to agree to have an interview that involved me talking to my computer screen / cell phone to answer their canned questions about the job opportunity. Really?? No person to person conversation, just a one sided silly interaction with my computer screen!! Any company that thinks that this is a good way to hire has a real problem!! And anyone that thinks that a company that operates this way is someone that you want to work for is delusional!!

Stay away, stay far far away!!

By the way, BP is still recruiting for this high level position along with the headhunter (MP) that they have hired to help!!

Food for thought!!

OP back again....

Thanks to everyone that responded to my request for input in a very helpful, professional way! You have confirmed my gut reaction which was run away fast! Most posts seem to have people that are just so determined to be rude and snarky.

To those that are currently employed at BP, hang in there until you find another job opportunity. It is there if you going looking for it....

Again.... thanks!

You don't want to come here trust me. You especially do not want to come to the BPX side.

Stay far away from this place. The benefits are quickly being taken away. Leadership lies to your face and thinks you aren't smart enough to weed through their nonsense. People get promoted based on connections and not merit. Their attitude is for you to leave if you don't like being overworked and burned out. Cliques run rampant. They pressure you to cover up numbers or hide things so that they can look good. The stress outweighs the rewards.

Many people are leaving as soon as they can. I know many who are thankful to be working but the dishonesty and stress is no longer worth staying long term at this place.

Be thankful you did not get the job. The interview questions are nonsense too. They ask you for silver bullet answers and there are none. As an HR rep, and now a People Ops person, I would never come here to look for work knowing what I know now. I've seen a lot of unethical garbage go down here that I wouldn't want to touch with a 50ft pole.

Your time-to-answer, facial movements, tone of voice, choice of words, and likely other metrics were being scored by an artificial-intelligence/machine-learning algorithm. HR departments are paying big money for algorithms to help them find homest, hard-working, loyal employees. This is the way all future interviews will be conducted - and you only have one chance to pass. You are recorded, and the data is retained for years.

I work here and I can tell you that this is exactly how you are treated if you do not have connections through friends or family. Steer clear of this place. Go elsewhere.

Just what I want, a one-sided interview. And you wonder why no one is interested in this approach which is impersonal. And it tells you so very much about a company that does not think it has to engage with potential employees. Can you imagine how you will be treated if you are actually an employee.... terribly!!

It's not new (at least not that new) - that's basically their version of the phone interview step. After that canned response one was the panel interview (the last step).

It's the new way of hiring. Face to face is probably the last/final step.
