Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Before I gave notice...

They got rid a man who had fantastic knowledge and skills. Real reasons unknown.
Then they showed the door to a colleague with whom it was a pleasure to work and from whom much could be learned. What is that? Get rid of people who actually know their job and elevate mediocrities to superstars?
It's not that things like this have never happened before, but if they continue like this, this will become a totally degraded company of mediocrity.

It’s not really about the dollars. That is used as an excuse to get rid of people that might make the management look bad. They only want the d-mb ones.
It’s all about fear of looking bad. If you are stupid you look better next to the stupider.

If it was all about the dollars I wish Oracle would cut all of the directors

If you want to extend the metaphor, those are the made men and capos They never get cut unless they break the "code" Speaking out of turn is one way to do it. But they have a record of success (i.e. not rocking the boat, speaking out of turn, embarrassing an even more worthless SVP, etc...) Capice?

If it was all about the dollars I wish Oracle would cut all of the directors in my GBU. They are utterly useless cows. See what I did there? The Pesci quote is so on point. I mean. This isn’t Amazon. Oracle doesn’t care about having talented employees.

Exactly what Pesci’s character in Casino says at one point.

I'm the OP, where do you think I got it from? And what do you think made me think of it?

Good catch, I have to day.

“It's all about the dollars.”

Exactly what Pesci’s character in Casino says at one point. Not surprising that companies can be just like the Mafia.

Just as a even a small candle can enlighten a dark room, so too your knowledgeable friends. Management can’t stand them because your friend’s candle exposes the utter darkness of the boss!

this will become a totally degraded company of mediocrity.

I hate to break it to you, but Oracle "became a totally degraded company of mediocrity" almost a decade ago. If you want an official date as to when this was look up the acquisition of Sun Microsystems.

It's all about the dollars. My guess is that They made too much money so when it came budget crunch time, they had to go. that's what happened to me. My reviews were all 4s and 5s, I was liked and respected by all, I was given the messiest and most difficult work to do (with results) but when it came to cutting the dollars, I was one to go, among other high dollar guys. It doen'st matter how good oyu are, it is all about the dollars.
