Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

My whole store quit

I was in the Tennessee market until 2 weeks ago. I was a rep with verizon for a long time. Our store used to run top in the nation just 4 years ago. With new management in place and how Verizon has got so bad over the last 3 years that our store could not take it anymore managers would say the good verizon days are over and if you don't like it quit. (Our store was one of the ones that got the 2 store merge) So... everyone quit the same month except 2 people and 1 of the 2 is on leave. One person arrived to work in the morning saw that there was 15 people waiting. The manager said to him its just me and you today so he said I cant do this and just left. I am just posting this to save anyone I can. All of last year and this year I suffered from anxiety and panic attacks not knowing what any of that was. I was told by a doctor I had severe anxiety and panic attacks. I figured it out and noticed that I always felt trapped by the endless queue and the financial hardship due to hospital bills and less pay from verizon. I figured out also that 5 people at my store recently started suffering from the same thing. Mental health is so important and I realize that now. Im at a new job that matched my verizon salary plus no cap commission. I do not have to wear those awful uniforms that they didn't listen to us on and my anxiety is almost all gone (except for writing this now). There are more jobs out there than ever before. If you are thinking about leaving take the leap.

Hey, look! The vote manipulators really likes people quitting. Or, the mentally infirm. Maybe they just got sick of the color red.

Submitting my two week notice on Monday. We have three managers and two reps. Everyone else is either on extended leave, has transferred, or has quit. Get on a lifeboat while you can. The Titanic is sinking!!

This type of behavior from Corporate Verizon has been happening for years. A few years ago in PA a GM ki---d himself. Also se-ual harassment, bullying, favoritism, slamming has been rampant for years. Seen a DM reported for harassment and racial discrimination and WAS NOT fired! The type of abuse I received as a Verizon employee was profound especially from 2014-present. I was diagnosed with anxiety/panic disorder which has since improved since finding a new job, which I LOVE! There is a much brighter world out there for many of you.

Is this what you wanted original poster? Which we know who you are. You wanted to shine the light on anxiety/panic attacks/mental illness, but now it’s being overshadowed. When you said yours all stemmed from long wait times and working conditions…we know that’s a lie! It could be a “tornado” of things that caused your anxiety. You should be ashamed of yourself for trying to rally for those who have mental illness. You definitely don’t stand as it’s poster child.

I’m curious to know what your new employers would think about how you all are behaving about a past job? They might think twice about hiring an over sensitive employee who complains about their manager giving them work to “improve” themselves. That’s literally what a manager is supposed to do.

Unless you have worked at Verizon you have no idea what op went through. Everything the op is saying is what reps end up doing around the 4th to 5th year mark. Of everyone who I started with back in 2013 no one is still with the company. From our district manager thru our reps/ops/inventory.

I’m happy to be out of Verizon. But it’s always interesting to speak to Verizon people transitioning out or ex employees and sharing our war stories.

Idk who said Verizon was a “great company” but they obviously get paid a lot or they have NEVER WORKED IN A RETAIL STORE. I’ve never felt so put down then when I would walk into me being one of two employees on the floor and my “manager” on her phone chillin in the back with 45 minute wait times. And then being told we had to lie to customers about being able to do upgrades because it would drop our check. Absolutely not a “great company”.

Verizon is a great company as a whole and won’t put up with any of this! Obviously there is someone they will hold accountable. Sounds like this is a one of situation but I’m sure they will figure it out!

I've been in Verizon for about six years from positions starting as a sales rep and now as a sales manager. I work for an indirect location. Those people have treated myself and everyone like gold here. I drive two hours to and from work five days a week because of how good they have been. This particular company only has 10 employees and three stores but they pay me triple the amount wireless zone (a huge indirect company) wanted to pay me. It's not all of Verizon, it's the corporate stores. We still have our individual rep commission structures with bonuses and spiffs. Sales managers are paid off of their own sales just like reps, also paid from the store performance and have bonuses for hitting certain tiers on top of that all.

My district is losing tenured people like crazy. Good for them though. Us SMs are working like crazy being reps and managers at the same time all while being a multi-store which means we are also the GM most days. No one is applying for any openings even since they moved them to full time openings.

I bet that when the store gets visits and talked to , that the reps will all be scared to say anything. But only time will tell.

The fact that you don’t care if they have families, makes you no better than the people you are complaining about. I don’t know any of you personally, but I can tell you I will pray for each of you. If you truly have mental health issues, then you know how talk like this can trigger anxiety/panic attacks. Be better than what you’re complaining about.

After years of having my co workers quit and not of their positions being filled, the work load consistently got more and more unbearable. I was with the company for almost 5 years and the work load / work life balance and overall attitude of the company after Hans Vestburg became CEO was a night and day difference. Before it felt like the company actually cared but they don’t in the slightest now and it shows. Constantly having less and less employees and not being back filled just to save the company money did nothing but ki-l the moral of the employees that decided to stay and tough it out. Changing the commission structure from personal to store has got to be one of the biggest slaps in the face the company ever did and during a pandemic to top it off. How are you going to do that to people who actually worked and tried to sell for your company and then completely sh-t on them by rewarding all the lazy leeches of employees that decided to stay and feed off the success of the people that actually tried. I also don’t understand how we had a great option for a GM that was already running the store as interim for months and despite all the garbage the company was pulling still made working there bearable and then you decide to fill his spot with some GM from another store with the mentality of a slave driver and the work ethic of a sloth. The last thing holding our store together and instead of actually listening to the employees needs that were already worked to death that’s who Verizon decided to bring in? I really can’t believe I stayed as long as I did. I developed anxiety I never had before and stayed on the belief that it’s like this everywhere at least that what my new caring GM told me. I promise you it’s not Gtfo out of that company. Cash out the vacation time you have and find a better option somewhere else I promise it’s worth it.

Pyramid scheme/ sleep to the top . Sad .Insane expectations of tasks with No allocated time to actually do them. Anxiety through the roof and Favoritism is an understatement. And the work life balance has to be the biggest joke but I don’t know.
