Thread regarding 3M layoffs

New US Talent Acquisition process

This is unbelievable:

"With recent changes to the U.S. Talent Acquisition process, 3M positions are now posted internally for the first 7 days that they're open. If an internal candidate is not selected, roles will be posted externally, where only external candidates will be considered."

Poor management is correct. They wanted to shed “expensive” employees, which the did. Now the “cheap” employees realize they could be next and/or have other attractive options, which certainly come much easier and quicker than for more senior employees. Kind of arrogant on the company’s part to think they could eliminate so many positions without suffering any consequences. The lack of creativity is also notable - furloughs, temporary pay cuts, etc all could have been options.

This is the result when you lay off so many people. Nobody wants to be "next" so they take decisions into their own hands. And now you don't have enough people to cover basic responsibilities. They don't want promotions now, they want more people to fill open roles. Poor management as always. Next time should consider furloughs like some companies did, instead of laying off so many, basically shooting themselves in the foot.

D-mb policy, but I think it is a response to the increasing attrition rate. HR doesn't want managers waiting around for internal candidates to apply when 3M really needs to be replacing the losses from outside.

The resignations are coming around fast and furious now.

Absolutely crazy... because the hiring managers could not possibly consider both internal and external candidates at the same time?
