Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Working level in Houston wants BTC to fail, ‘leaders’ are clueless or complicit?

“I was told the btc couldn’t be trusted and asked to give examples where they have failed us. Provided a verbose list in March only to find out that I am difficult to work with and unable to communicate clear objectives during my ranking session.”

On top of low pay, this is what BTC has to face everyday. Pure Unadultered Toxicity.

Select Houston management has too much invested to want BTC to fail, at the working level I’d agree and have heard many comments along those lines. It’s understandable given the toxic nature created by the weaponization of the layoffs and the PDS process.

Its true, the BTC is literally a battleground right now. Houston wants to see it fail and not as help in time of crisis.

Their loss. They have been mistreating BTC emoloyees for long time but now they have a stronger reason, and of course Americans love to exert control and claim they are the best without knowing the world has moved on.

Looks like BTC is changing out some of its senior leadership positions, this should make things interesting.

Keillor has no IT knowledge, experience to run EMIT. He is going to sell it to Infosys or HCL, collect his fat check and retire in he-l.

From what I have seen of BTC, there is alot of young, inexperienced talent with potential to grow and develop (no different than a new hire from US or Europe) but they will need some mentoring and oversight from experienced folks located in Houston, Singapore and London (as well as from operating locations). Give it 10 years. I fear they will not get the interaction and coaching that US/EU new hires get.

OP @OP+1bVkLFar

You were set up by your manager and you stepped on the land mine. When your thoughts were asked for BTC examples, you should have immediately contacted your BTC counterparts by email and asked them for "Examples of gaps between Houston and the BTC site that Houston needs to proactively close in 2021."

Compile BTC's suggestions into one anonymous document and email BTC's suggestions to your Department Head and Director. This shifts the responsibility to management and gets you off the obvious trap set by your Department Head as a "difficult person to work with".

Welcome to the classic mine field traps staged in our organization.

@cfk+1bVkLFarand yet they’re failing for the most part! Glad I dumped my XOM shares before the pandemic hit.

Management can say what they want we all know the truth. Everyone leech as much as you can while you can this goose ain’t laying more golden eggs

Just go to the intranet and search BTC strategy. On several documents it’s states, “failure is not an option”. In 9 years there will be more BTC engineers than Houston engineers. Sharpen your resume if you aren’t suckling on your managers ego.

Problem with btc is high turnover rate and constant need to train majority of staff. The smart ones always use btc as a stepping stone.

This reminds me of that getting paid meme

BA: We get paid to support infrastructure and tools that are important to the business and our work has helped drive important decisions.

KL: We get paid a lower rate to help the local affiliate as well as support tools important to the business. Our work helps keep the lights on

BTC: you guys work?

Keep in mind that at least KLTC does the work themselves, for BTC much of the real work is actually done by MSPs or in common language contractors. So business units are essentially forced to go thru BTC with the actual work being executed by MSPs. Of course the Business units pay for both BTC and MSP time.. Makes sense right?

Lol, we’re not hoping you fail, we’re seeing it happen and our management is too far up their a-s to do anything about it. SOME folks in the btc do try and it’s sad they’re underpaid, but it’s got to be a sweet gig if you’re getting paid for menial work with no real expectation to finish anything for the majority

It took KLTC 10 years to be what it is today up and maybe growing to EMRE East in the coming years. They started bit by bit and growing confidence from Spring day by day.....

BTC need to be patient and when the time is right (proven time be capable in work not lip service ) you will get your opportunity.

FYI, KLTC is consist of Malaysian from different Ethnicity from Malay, Chinese, Indian and others, they can have good I&D despite of that. If the BTC is as discriminative as posted by several OP in this forum, I guess this is well beyond what the company can do.....
