CIB is already doing the admin pool type way. It’s lame limits what we can do and we lose that 1 on 1 connection where we want to go the extra mile for our boss. Almost all the EA’s from the old executive team were laid off.
Some centralization can be good, but it often results in people that do not care, at all, handling your business. Human nature says that won't work very well.
@zac+1bVFG2NDn yes they do. But, like SO many of us, their functions can be parsed out. Travel reservations for their manager? Have the "central" travel team do it. Schedule all managers meetings, including Town Halls? There's an "admin & planning" and/or "communications" group for that. Approve requests? Those can be delegated to central teams who represent that topic. Be their delegate for various tasks/functions/approvals. Will have to delegate to one of their direct reports or to the central team that owns the process/policy/function. Look at Corporate Risk for example. MN has a central team for EVERYTHING "operations, administration, planning & logistics". You can't fa-t in the wrong way without her central teams approval. Her direct reports will probably keep their admins, but further than that, doubt it. Leaders will have to learn to manage their own calendars. Every other task can be "centralized". Sadly this is what happens with "centralization". Many admin and ops roles are deemed unnecessary and tasks get parsed out. I'm not saying I agree. I'm saying I've seen it happen too many times in last few decades I've been here.
I wish our admin sux. She can't even take the simplest of directions. Talk about waste.
Admins navigate a lot of requests and tasks that otherwise would be very nebulous for most managers. A good admin is indispensable.
OC and MC keep theirs. Everyone else moves to an “admin pool” setup like HR where you submit cases for a designated person to work that particular task.
WFA laid off a BUNCH of admins and assistants in 2020 and this year. Historically they get cut as "unnecessary" and their duties shift to other "ops contacts", typically on centralized teams. Only the most senior managers will keep their admins. Anyone 4-5 down and further from Chainsaw will probably not get to keep theirs. Disclaimer: this coming from my 24 years and I've been through this "centralization" and "hub" structure with Wachovia and First Union prior to it all being WF. Every time they did this, these roles were let go.
Why not. Not all of these 5 downs need a secretary. They just carry with them the weight of importance anyway.
Unless you're an OC level exec, I doubt you'll get to keep one. They've been culling that herd for many years. Lots of people above me in the chain used to have them, now you have to go to the very top to find one.
Don’t think that they are specifically targeting admins but as others have pointed out, i don’t think that they are exempt from the activities.
there are no safe positions, but I heard it will be the higher ups in Infosec
Also some of the people who are doing fake work in that department
There were quite a few that were let go recently. I don't know if more are planned.
In the past 8 months I know of 4 that have been let go in my building. If you ask me, they are needed as they are what nurses are to doctors, per-se.
