Thread regarding Raymond James Financial Inc. layoffs

Disaster test this weekend. Is it going to be a disaster?

Just spoke to a former collogue. He told me there is a disaster test this weekend. First in nearly 2 years. Paranoia is rampant in IT. So much institutional knowledge was lost with the layoffs last September and nobody is willing to go outside their comfort zone. I can only hope that Paul, Bella and Vin get what they deserve namely some free publicity...

big Oracle issues, no surprise! Of course, it is swept under the rug. Vin lies all the time and no one calls him out on it. With all the resignations, the place is becoming ghost town for anyone with half a brain. So many of us are just dreading going back into the office with such low moral. Just the SVPs, with their big paychecks, smiling and driving fancy cars while the rest of us scrape by. Yes we see you all with your Porsches and Mercedes parked up front. You are rich, we get it so stop rubbing our faces in it.

sure would be nice to know what failed. Guess we have to wait for the "official" report to say that the test was 100% successful. I heard that there were big Oracle issues but I am sure they will be swept under the covers.

Wow...a 5 hour delay in a controlled failover?? That's reassuring...

Just heard from a former collogue that still works at RJ that the test had a couple big blips. First of which was that they had issues in the failover that put them 5 hours behind. They were a hair away from canceling the test when someone figured out what when wrong.

Just like when the entire firm was down for 3 days last September because CDS on Oracle completely crashed. Bella and Vin lied and blamed Oracle and it ended up being self inflicted because they never patched Exadata. They even made a video and lied to the FAs what caused the issue. I was one of the people fired over that but Bella and Vin continue to collect big fat multi million dollar yearly salaries.

I had to participate from time to time. I had to spend a few hours on weekends to verify things worked. I took it as part of the job. In a way I hope things work well for the employees that participate but in a way a part of me wishes for something to go wrong in a way that impacts Bella's and Vin's evaluations. My so called "anger" is toward upper management because as many others have stated, I think the lay offs were not really needed.

I know 3 people that are working this weekend that I have spoken to. None of them believe this will be anywhere to a successful test. In fact they have some doubts that the test will even make it halfway thru the day on Saturday and even if it does recovery will be painful.

Prior to being let go I participated in these exercises for many years. I almost want to be a fly on these status calls over the weekend to see how things go. From speaking to a couple folks still at RJ and working this weekend they are not looking forward to it. I feel bad for the "worker bees" but have no sympathy for management especially Paul, Bella and Vin. They ruined so many lives last September that need not have happened.

Many times I had to participate in those during a weekend. It always took longer than expected and usually something would not work as expected but one way or another we completed it. This is one of the things I do not miss about my job there.
