"I'm curious what the original poster and others believe the red hat culture to be. "

Just a guess that it's basically FOSS culture... which is to say something similar to herding cats. Rather than serious engineering and business building.

So doesn't surprise me that folks from that culture fell flat going into Fort 1000 companies. Two totally different worlds, and the FOSS world sees itself as largely opposed to the Fort 1000 world... or so it seems to me.

Rather like 1960's hippies, or perhaps rock bands that made a lot of money promoting "counter culture"... and then eventually had to become business/corporate people anyway, LOL!

Just the cr-p documentation, etc. of FOSS software vs. say the old IBM manuals (especially logic manuals) should server to illustrate the difference.

Artsy Fartsy vs. Engineering, basically.

Or perhaps, "He man I do my own thing man" vs. "Engineering".

I also have had very unpleasant experiences working with Red Hat. Their professional services people aren’t even certified in Red Hat products - a gigantic red flag in the IT biz. I had one argue with a client and call a senior client staff member an “id--t” to his face! They were thrown out of my client but their leadership are thick as thieves and spun it that it was our fault. I refuse to work with them ever again.

I can confirm… been working on various projects that required Red Hat involved and it was a disaster with these guys. They never want to help and are definitely working against IBM.

I'm curious what the original poster and others believe the red hat culture to be. I worked on one project where we had a major dependency on the red hat team and the whole time I saw less ownership of the work and more half-a$$ed delivery than ever in my decades at IBM. If red hat culture and people are this lame it could not possibly succeed. It was bad enough to make me think it might have been some form of passive resistance against being forced to work with a larger ibm team. Thoughts?
