Thread regarding Raymond James Financial Inc. layoffs

Contacted by former peer with a question....

So it's been over 9 months since I was let go by RJ. Last week out of the blue I got a text message from a former peer that is still at RJ. They didn't ask how I was or how are things or is there anything I can do for you (not that I need anything). They asked me a RJ work related question that I could have answered in about 10 seconds. I didn't even dignify this with a reply. Let them figure it out like I had to. I'm just thinking about how much institutional knowledge RJ lost that day. Yes they are still functioning and yes I know I was a very, very small cog in a very large wheel and RJ stock is at record numbers. I just wish those that decided to let us go had some pain to. I know this is wishful thinking but what's wrong with this. I'm not losing any sleep. Have others been contacted? If so how did you respond?

To those of us that worked very hard and were so let down. I was let go by someone at RJ that i did not know...after 10 years i would have appreciated that at least my immediate manager could have given me the news. The company has become a real sad example of greed and total disregard for the people that worked there for years. Be proud...i am sure you are!

RJ management is getting desperate. I'm talking about 1-2 levels up from the working bee. They are the ones that need to get the job done. Vin/Bell/Paul only care about their pocketbook.

I would expect that some manager put that employee up to contacting you. I have spoken to a number of people still there and when they had issues/questions on something that only someone who is gone knew and they told their manager they were asked if they would be comfortable with contacting them. One person said absolutely not if you want to do it that's your business. I don't know what happened after that but I suspect nothing

I have not been contacted after my layoff. However, prior to the layoff, my manager asked me several times if all my work was uploaded to the SharePoint site. This manager also took a more involved interest in my projects in the months leading up to the layoff.

I guess you would call that a leading economic indicator.

I was at RJ for over 15 years when I was let go. In the month after this happened I must have had at least a half dozen phone calls and emails. I told every one of them to contact my former manager. RJ gets nothing from me. I recently heard that 2 other members on my old team have left. Those still there are simply going day by day and collecting a check. RJ has no loyal employees anymore.

About 3 months ago I was called (yes a phone call) by someone I had a good business relationship with. They did say "Hi" and "how are things"...about 10 seconds worth and then they asked me a question like I had never left. I told this former peer that if you want answers to have your manager contact me to put a contract together for some consulting and then I would absolutely help. There was silence for about 10 seconds (I know he was trying to think of a way out of the conversation but I saved him. I said this was inappropriate and I won't answer. Said have a nice day and hung up. I have not heard back from this person, nor do I expect to. I spoke to someone who I am close to still at RJ and they told me that this person was recently let go. Good luck to them.
