Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Is there anything you are NOT worried about?

My day consists of worrying about being laid off, more benefits being cut, being passed over for a promotion and a raise again, not upsetting my vindictive manager, being able to finish my work in time despite knowing it's physically impossible... My stress levels are through the roof. Is there one aspect of working here that does not inspire constant worry?

I'm not worried about getting RIFed. I would take the severance package and laugh to an early retirement.

If you are worried, do something about it, make a plan, look at your options. 90 percent of things people worry about never happen. And the 10 percent of things that do happen, they mostly have no control over. If you expect a company to care about you or do the best for you, in today's world, that is an unrealistic expectation and one that will give you anxiety when reality sinks in.

There are A LOT of jobs out there right now. Sc--w HI and go get one. You will probably get a raise by doing so.

If you get a better offer, bail out! Honeywell may counter, but that's only to give them enough time to find and train your replacement. When that is done (usually within a year), they will fire your or make you part of the next RIF. I've seen it happen five times.

“ cheap-suit companies are the ones who say, ‘Workers are a dime a dozen’ “ is a great quote.

Yup. I hope you are looking for another gig. Your stress is going to ki-l you for no reason.

Your stress is self-made. Get over it, do your job, and be confident in how you do your job. Unless you have a reason not to be confident in the job that you do. Then, you just need to move out of the way.

Well there was one blessing, as an older worker, that Moneyhell provided. I actually felt blessed to be getting older as I knew that with each year that passed I was getting closer to escaping this penal colony. RIF, retirement, firing ... one way or another I'd be out of there.

I’m not worried about pi$$-poor management at all levels exceeding the low bar that has been set for them.

I am worried about both the short term and long term effect on my children, spouse, my physical health and mental health, marriage, if I might become an alcoholic or become addicted to sleeping pills I take to stop worrying about work. The thought of having our home and cars repossessed is ever present. Along with the thought of being unable to find a new job at my age and the current economic situation in the US due to $30-plus trillion in debt, political crazies, and the disaster and hardship that is going to cause. The list goes on an on!

Your ultimate removal is nothing to worry about, as it is a certainty and will happen. Use the time wisely to prepare.

I worry about HW quarterly financials... Rev, GM and WC not meeting MM goals. I worry about DA and his expensive wines not have sufficient supply.

The only thing that worries a manager more than getting screwed by his own boss is when his subordinates express relaxed confidence as he rants. Let him think you don't need this job, and you'll be surprised how much better you get treated. Better yet, get another job lined up and you'll have ammo with the bluff.
Even at Moneyhell, you have the right to being treated as a human being, not like something stuck to the bottom of his shoe.
I used to fear the "grim RIFer" too, but one day, it happened - and it was nothing.

Save up two months salary,
apply for unemployment before you need it,
always have your resume up to date,
apply for jobs proactively,
interview at least twice a year to stay in practice,
build out your network of friends and colleagues (75% of new jobs come from networks!),
and enjoy life!
Work doesn't have to be horrible. Find an employer who values your skills.

Trust me, at cheap-suit companies the ones who say, "Workers are a dime a dozen," are looking in a mirror.
