Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

NS is trimming the fat to be more competitive

While I may not have a degree in Business, I do have some understanding of how big corporations work to a certain degree.

Norfolk Southern Corp is trimming the fat meaning eliminating things that will cause the company to go bankrupt so they can become more competitive.

The only major downfall about the Precision Scheduled Railroading Business Model is the railroad employees are gonna end up losing their jobs as the result of all the cost cutting and unfortunately there is no possible way to bypass it.

Who is this? To write this BS!!! Its all about the share holders making money. The Employees and their families pay the price, after years of hard work keeping them running.

Trimming the Fat ? The redundancy in this company is sickening . Having four bosses tell you the same thing to achieve a result is ridiculous. This is about greed , stock margins and personal gain . Competitiveness is not dismissing JB Hunt and UPS as if they are nothing … They pay the bills along with so many other customers . Note to shareholders if they treat two premium customers like this ? What about the little guy ? What quality of service do you receive ? Political contributions only get you half way down the road . They are not paying for a service but a result . NS believes in scorched earth because of greed . Banks , Airlines and the Automotive have all received a bailout… Where is our’s ? They are lying to the US government about manpower issues. The railroads are lying we are not ready . The workforce has been decimated, as they continue to cut the workforce “precision railroads “

NS is not cutting the fat they are cutting the backbone and muscle that made them the railroad they were. All this while adding to the fat or useless office personnel. If they were to trim the fat they need to get in the office buildings in Atlanta!

Do you have a degree at all? The RR's are not using the PSR business model to "trim the fat" to avoid bankruptcy. They're using the model to trim costs to paint the illusionary pictures of efficiency. You really should research the PSR business model, before you make assumptions. If you think the PSR business model is so great, then ask yourself why the Illinois Central went under. Take a wild and educated guess as to why that RR went under. PSR decimated that RR into bankruptcy! PSR was designed to inflate the stock price to make the RR's more attractive for investor opportunities, and nothing more. The articles you posted are garbage, mean absolutely nothing, and are typically biased. If you want a bigger picture, then go have a look at the SEC filings regarding stocks. PSR is a job ki---r. Better yet, go have a look at the videos of the subcongressional hearings about the RR's using PSR. Get back to us and let us know how many congress people actually applauded PSR. If you don't respond back, then we'll have your answer. I have a business admin degree, and a mechanical engineering degree. I never worked for the NS, but I was very much aware PSR and it's destructive potential. I will agree with you though on the one thing you got right. People will lose their jobs, with no real away around that. Please don't make assumptions or opinions, and honestly think you're helping. There's too many people that think PSR is a good thing. I'm here to tell you that it's not.

15 years and still record quarterly profits every quarter.

These class 1 railroads aren't hurting for money. This is pressure from the share holders to milk it dry no matter the cost

This is false. The company isn't in trouble. None of these companies were. PSR is designed to create liquidity. In NS's case, they are then using this liquidity to buy back their own stock, inflate the price and cash out. This was the Hunter Harrison model and what he did with three railroads. Spend a bit of time looking into it. This is so much more than "trimming the fat" as you claim. They are now skimping on safety and people are getting hurt. They are rolling the dice with communities running 14,000 foot oil and ethanol trains through them.
