It seems there is an effort to document small missteps (or construed missteps in relation to compliance with processes etc. but nothing related to work) as warnings-on-record to create grounds for poor appraisals in coming months and eventual cause for performance related dismissal of an employee after merger related work is over. There is also the pressure to take on more and more when already an employee is working excessive hours. Is it possible for exempt employees who are forced to work overtime (and not paid overtime because they are exempt) to sue the employer?

Its all coming from the top. Create grounds for eventual RIF in the long term. They know 18K contractors can be halved quickly anytime. Branches (even 50% closure) will lead to further erosion of 8K or so/. Firing too many employees creates a bad PR, hence start building the ground now.
Not sure what department you work in but the same thing happened to me. Stupid comments on my review because I made a comment. Nothing to do with my actual job performance and management wrote lies about me in an attempt to keep me from getting hired in another department. I am not sure why Upper management does Nothing to find out why some departments have unhappy associates and high turnover rates. Nearly 20 people has left my department because of thus same type of mistreatment. Not to mention there's 0 chance of getting a promotion but instead tell you how happy you should be because you have a job. We're treated as if we are on a plantation.
There is no chance of being compensated for more work, they re-graded positions and took any incentive that you did have away by lowering your pay grade. The stay on bonus you accepted covers their butts, and believe me, there are a lot of butts AKA, A*ses
Compliance with company procedures, policies and regulations that the feds push on companies are part of your job! Yes if you don’t follow them you can be subject to disciplinary action. You must be HSTI as it appears most from that world never saw a P&P or reg that is worthy of adherence. Most just make it up as they go and say that’s “stupid” I’m not following that.
