Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Is it worth having a little more patience?

I’m certainly not the only one to find myself in a dilemma like this. I believe I will be the target of the next cuts here because everything points to it, I feel it from my manager’s behavior.

In the meantime, I got a job offer, but my starting salary would be lower than here. From my experience so far, there aren’t very many places that would immediately give me a higher salary than I had.

Still, I doubt whether to accept such an offer or to wait a little longer because it is rumored that the cuts are around the corner?

I relate with your dilemma. while I don’t have a job offer yet, I have recently decided that I am open to seriously for exploring opportunities outside the company for the first time in almost a decade. For a while, I had the mindset that I wanted to hold out for severance, but let’s face it, we really don’t know IF we will be impacted - though it seems more and more likely by the day. After months of grappling with this question, I decided that there is no use letting a potential severance cloud my future. It’s time for change, and sitting obediently for a severance may be doing more harm than good by delaying new opportunities. If I don’t get an offer before a potential layoff, so be it, but if I do, I’m not looking back.

What are the benefits like, are the close to VZ's? Hours better? Are you going to working weekends? Salary or hourly? Lots to look at and balance. Good Luck to you!

Make a positive and negative list for the potential new job vs vzw.

I am applying for a state job that pays 10k less than my vzw base pay but the work schedule is much better. M-F 8am-4:30pm with weekends and holidays off. Also, I would qualify for state retirement benefits after 20 years.

If offered the position the retirement and work schedule far outweigh the cut in pay and general insanity that Verizon has become.
