Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Atrophied skills?

Instead of going forward, this company is going backwards in almost every way. I’m hoping for a package because in the meantime, while researching possible options, I’ve concluded that my skillset has pretty atrophied here. I’m almost certain it will take me a few months of training to be marketable again.

I can relate. I felt the same thing and saw the writings on the wall a few years ago. I took a pay cut and got into corporate. Not only because of Verizon giving me an opportunity but for myself and the brand. Putting Operations Analyst, Business Account Manager, Consultant, Marketing Manager, Coordinator, etc is way better than a Retail Specialist on the resume. Not follow with that up with true SFDC, Tableau, Accenture, Azure, Database Management, Alteryx, etc is way better than any customer service job. Get out of retail! Use VZ to build your brand! If anything happens, you will at least be marketable. Nothing wrong about being in retail forever, but times are changing. Go back to school if you haven’t. Get a degree that companies value. Degrees aren’t everything but it will allow you to check an additional box. Let’s go! You got this

I agree I feel like at least 50% of this job is gracefully avoiding things or word smithing your way out of something or helping a customer in a specific way

I forgot how to actually help customers and not just duck upgrades. It's gonna be hard to get used to actually wanting to help customers
