Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

How easy is it to switch positions at Nike?

I didn’t come here that long ago so I don’t know yet how some things work here.
In the previous company, I was terrified of people who were real job hoppers and would change the department every now and then. Just around time when it would become clear that they are not actually doing anything, they would change the department.

It depends on your job function.

In some Nike orgs moving around frequently is encouraged and even expected. In other orgs it is quite difficult and sometimes even frowned upon. Nike does not have a singular “work culture”. Working in one area of the company can be and often is VERY different from working in another area. I can often tell from the comments posted on this website that plenty of people don’t understand this primary fact about working at Nike.

Anyway that’s why it’s difficult to answer your question OP. It really does depend on where you work and what you do.

I’ll also second the prior comment about being an internal candidate at Nike. I applied for a different job last Fall and after my first interview I never heard anything from anyone. No follow-up at all. About 3 weeks after my interview I contacted the internal recruiter to ask for the status and was told “Oh we hired for that position last week.”

Ge-z thanks for letting me know. It’s not like I’ve been eagerly awaiting some resolution on that or anything.

I was saddened but not surprised that the recruiter couldn’t even give me the common courtesy of letting me know i hadn’t been hired. It was like a massive “F You! With love from HR.”

I’m very tempted to post that recruiter’s initials here except I’m feeling charitable today. She knows who she is anyway. (And sweetheart, please feel free to use your spell checker when replying via email. When you did reply back to my inquiry you somehow managed to misspell three words - including my name - in a largely incoherent 14 word sentence. Made me wonder from where Nike gets some of its “talent”.)

Also depends on how far you want to move. I have moved to multiple positions under the same Senior Director without interviewing but with letting my management know I am wanting a different position.

It depends. A lot of people that have been around before the growth in past few years basically say “I was lucky, was in right room at right time and met people, just network” while others go through the worst experience ever as an internal candidate. You have to apply do full interviews just like external, except I felt treated worse as internal candidate, recruiting is awful.

That's how you're supposed to do it at Nike.
