Why do you care how people react on Layoff.com? It’s a site comprised of many different people with differing opinions. Who cares?
WF is really pulling out of New Mexico, it seems. I know of multiple building closures, group layoffs etc., and now they don't seem to care about PR in NM either. Not a good sign for any WF employee in that state. It really feels like we're devolving into a regional bank again in certain ways, while providing some services nationwide/virtually.
Sad, have also attended and the stagecoach balloon is a huge favorite. Because it’s so huge sometimes it’s too windy for it to leave the ground (not so for smaller teardrop ones). The local news will talk about it specifically like “Perfect weather today. Looks like the stagecoach balloon will take off today!”
I am not surprised because Charlie hates the stagecoach branding. And I completely get the point that it feels like a nice-to-have expense when folks are being laid off. But it’s not something you can just pause for a year while Wells gets costs under control. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.
If they kept doing it, The Layoff would be outraged because they chose to fly balloons while people lost their jobs. If they do ki-l the program, The Layoff complains that it's 'not really that much money anyway' and 'other things cost money too'. It's good to see that 'heads I win, tails you lose' lives on after elementary school.
Maybe someone from Meetings and Events will chime in and tell us the cost. It’s probably got sponsorship fees and travel and whatnot baked in.
Cut a hot air balloon at an annual event that probably costs, at most, $5000.
Approve spending $22 Billion on stock buybacks.

Maybe not the last. You ever work at a startup and notice the free snacks are drying up, theyre not restocking the Keurig or anything? Minor little morale boosting nickel and dime stuff, cost next to nothing, but it says something. It’s the beginning of the end. The stuff being cut is so piddly and stupid.

If you're committed to cutting costs, that's a good thing. I've seen it in NM before and it's pretty impressive but probably not appropriate when you're laying folks off.
Charlie despises all things Wells Fargo: the employees, the structure, the stagecoach, the museum, the history, the West Coast. The Board hired a CEO who despises everything about the company he is running.
The last thing we'd need to worry about
