Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Kobe Bryant's Nike deal

How much will the fact that the two sides did not agree to a contract extension affect Nike, given that Kobe was a big connection with the consumers?
I apologize that the question has nothing to do with layoffs, but the story is very current and I would like to hear your opinion.

I get why they do the drops and stuff, but you definitely have a point. It totally turned me off to the coolest Nike shoes because I knew I would never have a shot at buying a pair. They'd just end up in some sneaker hoarder's closet, never to be worn. Is that what Nike really wants the brand to be all about?

Look at the myopic do**he

On news that Kobes Estate is cutting ties due to the planned obsolescence supply planning approach that is now common across all high heat launches...

Nothing to see here folks! This is exactly what we had in mind all along! Plus the rampant bot and reseller culture!

Soon it will be at a point in which kids are no longer willing to actually play sports in Nike product because they are too valuable so instead turn to brand x and associate all their sporting moments to them...

A few generations later....

CDA is not going to turn out well if we turn the brand into the Louis Vuitton of sporting goods...

@ngh: Maybe the stock took a dump today because a well known analyst at a large investment bank lowered his near term outlook?

I’m going to take a wild guess that’s why the stock sank. Especially since the slide started within minutes of that banker’s announcement.

But if you think it makes for a better narrative to tie it to Kobe then heck, I certainly won’t stop you!

It financially impacts the stockholders in a huge way – especially based on the fact the stock dumped almost 5% today!!
