Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

It's sad reading all these posts

I come here to guage sentiments and morale. All the posts on this site are symptoms of:

  1. Poor & ineffective communication at many levels
  2. Failed leadership & EE engagement
  3. Failed relationship management
  4. A lack of mentoring and transparency
  5. A broken culture not focused on all of the above.

Retiring soon from WF so here's my vision as a 25 year WF team member (used on purpose) and 40 year industry employee. What you are seeing is the same thing that is played out in corporations around the country. It is a tried and true path to reduce through attrition first by creating a difficult environment, then layoffs, then stabilize. I first experienced it with Fleet Focus back in the 80's. (employees called it something similar but different). Charlie has also used these same methods twice before. Check out the layoff boards at his previous companies and you will see. Everyone is scared, your boos is scared. All of these new executives are trying to change things to make their mark but it is ALL happening at the same time magnifying the confusion.

What I am seeing right now is a huge drain on experience yes but I am seeing more and more of the lower level employees engaged in roles that require they know something about the business they are trying to support. Agile will work here, ECM will work here. Change has to move faster. A consulting firm in 2008 told WF that our average time to market was 3 times our competitors. Just the cycle from idea to approved project for anything impactful was over 20 months.

Am I a Chainsaw fan, well no. He is so self centered I'm surprised he wasn't on our former POTUS's cabinet. Did something need to be done, well yes.

I’m new to this thread. Have had some trouble following who’s who, but I would like to “correct” the person who insists they are not attacking fellow employees, but are merely “correcting inaccurate statements and misguided attacks”.

Are any of these statements yours?

Mocking employees: “Oh get real! The sky is falling. Nothing is good. Hate this, hate that. Worst company. Worst CEO but please please don’t lay me of. Please Charlie please don’t!! Like a broken record.”

“CS really REALLY lives in some of your heads. It's amazing how many people give that kind of power to someone that don't know and don't like. It's bizarre frankly.”

“Op there is a ton of victim hood on these boards.”

Mocking other employees: “Charlie does not care about me. Charlie is mean to me. Charlie hurts my feeling. But I can’t stop thinking about him. I need him to care about me. I can’t leave him. I am needy and I am hurt”

Mocking other employees: “hey and whining, obsessed with whining about Charlie. Don’t forget that. It’s my best work”

Mocking other employees: “Now don’t be coy. You know how much you need Charlie to care about you. It’s ok to admit you think about him 24/7. You fragile little thing”

“You must have skipped psych to attend debate, which you clearly failed at anyway. Buy go on creating straw men to mow down as if no one notices.” “There's plenty of tiny Credit Unions that are hiring.”

If more than one of these statements are yours, than “the truth” is you get your kicks from being condescending and demeaning to employees. You may not intend to come across that way, but you certainly do.

I agree with you: You are a corporate hack that loves Charlie You're not a champion of anything but your own opinion. You attack your fellow workers on a layoff site. You are a Charlie stooge.

I’m glad it’s settled.

You'll "get it" when you realize I wasn't 'standing up' for any person or group, just the truth. I'm a regular old employee. I don't need/want you standing up for me. You don't speak for me, you speak for you, and just you. We're all entitled to our opinions and just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean that they are some kind of corporate hack. You're not a champion of anything but your own opinion.

"The sky is green"

"No, it's blue, actually"

"Oooohhhh, mmmmm, geeee, you're a corporate hack that loves Charlie!!!!!!"

"Uh, no, just pointing out that the sky is blue"

"How dare you attack your fellow workers on a layoff site. I am fighting for the little guy, while you're a Charlie stooge!'

"You're attacking the little guy right now..and I didn't bring up any of that other stuff, you did"

That's this thread in a nutshell.

I get it.

You like to stand up for people above you who are profiting at the expense of ruining other people’s lives, including potentially your own. Good for you. I find it to be illogical and ugly. I like to stand up for people who are having their lives ruined by such people, through no fault of their own. I’m very comfortable with my stance.

"I am merely tackling the ignorance of anyone who attacks and insults employees who are sharing concerns about Layoffs on a Layoff site. "

Translation: only I am allowed to attack other employees!

The truth is there was no "attack". There was a correction of inaccurate statements and misguided attacks. If you consider being corrected an "attack", then you've been attacking fellow employees the entire thread. Or are only those employees that are on lock step agreement with you worthy of your valiant white knighting?

I think the members of BOD are as greedy, self-serving, elitist, short-term minded, dirty, destructive, toxic and clueless as Charlie. Does that make you feel better? Your nonsense insults are irrelevant to me.

I am merely tackling the ignorance of anyone who attacks and insults employees who are sharing concerns about Layoffs on a Layoff site. I don’t like bullies. I don’t know where you learned to be a bully, but it is a negative behavior and it is result of low self -esteem. So maybe I should be nicer to you, since you are doing what is necessary to boost your confidence.

My suggestion is to try spreading kindness instead of attacking people anonymously while hiding behind your keyboard.

@1blc

You must have skipped psych to attend debate, which you clearly failed at anyway. Buy go on creating straw men to mow down as if no one notices. The fact is, the board would not have hired a new CEO that wasn't willing to do exactly what CS is doing. So whether it was Charlie Scharf or Jane Doe, the same things would be happening right now. Sure, maybe the new execs brought in would be from somewhere else, but the downsizing of the work force was happening no matter who it was. And CEO pay? The board offered, CS accepted. Who's "fault" is it that he makes whatever he makes? The boards. They didn't have to offer what they did, they chose to do so. So if you're going to be all mad about what someone else earns, at least be made at the people actually responsible for it. CEOs of major banks make millions a year, it's nothing new. If that is offensive to your sensibilities, you picked the wrong business or the wrong sized bank. There's plenty of tiny Credit Unions that are hiring.

I didn’t think you were referring to me. I think you are attempting to insult and demean anyone who does not like Charlie or the current work environment at WFC. People who don’t like him (or anyone) doesn’t mean that “someone is living in their heads” or they are giving someone too much power.

Perhaps the truth is that Charlie lives in your head? Or maybe you give the Charlie-haters too much power because you can’t stop coming out here and insulting them. Trust me, you'll be happier and live longer if you stop worrying about people who don’t like the CEO. They come, they go, whatever.

It’s very odd that all you can ever think of to say is that “Charlie lives in your heads.” What does that even mean? It’s a pitiful argument. Seriously, have you not yet taken debate class? What grade are you in?

I don’t like canned peas, and will tell you that I don’t like canned peas if you start yapping on about what a delicacy canned peas are. But “canned peas do not live in my head”. I only think about them when some yahoo starts flapping their gums about all the glories of canned peas.

CS really REALLY lives in some of your heads. It's amazing how many people give that kind of power to someone that don't know and don't like. It's bizarre frankly. I don't waste any time thinking about the CEO. But keep being you obsessed with Charlie guy(s). Takes all kinds. Diversity and all.

Also, do people actually think that the CEO sets their own pay? They don't. If you don't like the CEOs comp, be mad at the board, they are the ones that offered it.

It’s a layoff site. Of course it’s sad. There are a few who come to preen and posture, but most people come here to look for and share information they have no other way of obtaining.

Just the fact the site is so busy speaks to how poorly upper management is handling the situation. If there was any transparency at all people wouldn’t feel the need to come here hoping for scraps of news.

But there isn’t. Management doesn’t feel the rank and file have a need to know about decisions that affect them. So here we are.

Seem's with all the posts, your dead wrong on point 1, communication here is great. People communicate maybe a little to much if you ask me, look at all these posts. I think people here just want to turn this company around and see our careers progress. Unless your a D&I headcount your career has gone no where.

It wouldn’t be so bad if my manager didn’t get so sad when people give notice, in a sort of “I thought people liked working here” way. I worked at a company which was circling the drain 20ish years ago and at least then if you were two hours late showing up to work and in a suit, the boss would hear your bogus car trouble story and say “yeah, fine, whatever. Let me know if they’re hiring project managers”.
