Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Food for thought

I’ve read a lot of criticism in these threads for those who chose to remain. Calling us lazy, blaming us for the decline of the company, stating that we all deserve what’s coming. Most or all of us realize the direction OXY is headed and the decision we make to stay/leave is our choice to make. I understand most of the formers didn’t have that choice and are bitter. However, if the situations were reversed and I was a former I would not in any way wish for someone currently working here to lose their job. Complain about the horrible working conditions, moral, culture and many other things. But leave those alone who are there just trying to make a living.

@3ofe imagine if all leadership and important decision makers earned their roles through ambition alone! Technical know and critical thinking abilities be damned.
Oops. Not hard to imagine.

Oxy doesn’t have layoffs is an incorrect statement. Where have you been for the past 30 years? Or maybe you were just being facetious.

Oxy doesn't have layoffs. These negative comments are coming from current employees. Oxy, get your act together!

"However, if the situations were reversed and I was a former I would not in any way wish for someone currently working here to lose their job." If you were laid off, this wouldn't cross your mind because you'd be looking for a JOB.

Why is @OP even on this site if they're so bothered by comments? It is called the layoff after all, not "Oxy news hub". Go back to yammer fool. Layoffs are done on a departmental basis, not on performance. That's why they give such big severances.

Fine if you want. Instead of you we will keep and hire the people who come in to the office and are ambitious and want the job. You will sink to the bottom of the barrel with time. The bottom of the barrel is where the first people in a lay–off are taken from. You’re choice though.

Tell me who needs to meet face to face vs doing business remotely. We have all worked large budget projects with at least some individuals working offsite/remote/offshore/internationally. The world and its technology allow this and for a company of any size to ignore that is crazy. Am I saying g that all roles should be remote 100% of the time, no. But why does Mike from accounting need to be in the same building or even state as Larry from engineering. If my 8 year old can learn and turn his work in remotely, I think a 35 to 50 year old can too.

Most of the critical comments lately have been directed toward the people who want to work from home permanently and don’t understand the need to meet with people face to face. These are the people who should have no part of this company going forward.
