Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Well it's clear Oracle has no future

Oracle clearly has no future.

At first I thought it was just problems in the group I was in, work going to India, people leaving, etc.

And I thought that other parts of the company were still going well.

Then, there was the lawsuit involving NetSuite where they said customers were being lied to. Customers were told certain functionality existed, but then it was not there and not even being worked on. NetSuite appears to have been taken over by mafia types who haven't got a clue.

Then, I thought there was hope for OCI as there were new hires there from Amazon, but no, turns out that is being screwed up to. See the lawsuit posted under Post ID: @OP+1agsiz2o.

I was amazed to see all the stuff going on in OCI, how the people doing the work were screwed over and cheated. Also amazing were the number of management people in OCI who have left. I'm sure they tell LE that all of the people who left were terrible, but of course, that is a lie.

Then, maybe the DB area is still OK. But then I know someone who has moved into that area who I worked with who is a lying pile of sc-m. So I think that area will be taken over by the mafia types also.

I don't think there is hope for any part of the company. There is no where else to go but out.

Good luck everyone. Hope all the good people left will find some place to work that they enjoy.

There is nothing wrong with collecting an average salary at Oracle while searching for another, better job.

However, working at Oracle should NEVER NEVER NEVER be anything but a temporary stepping stone on your career path. Oracle is a way and means to get experience and as a temporary step to bigger and better things.

One should NEVER spend more than 5-6 years at Oracle, for any reason. If you are there much longer than 5 years, you are creating career su—e.

The only exception to this is if you are in the last couple or three twilight years of your career,, and want a place to park, work modestly, and collect s paycheck before you retire for good. This is the ONLY situation where this makes sense.

Many people who came into OCI in the 2017 time frame (the “heyday”) are approaching their 4-year RSU cliffs, and are finding that their generous “get you into Oracle” RSUs are not being renewed — at least at anything CLOSE to the level they initially received.

That’s a clear sign that these folks who worked hard for four years are not valued. So you can expect a mass exodus of 2017-hire OCIers over the course of the second half of this year and into 2022.

And the same thing will repeat itself for the 2018 OCIers….2019ers….in the coming years.

Oracle’s “get you hooked with free RSU crack” employee hiring strategy for OCI is coming back to haunt it by its inherent corporate stinginess.

The future is bleak even for OCI.

Oh, c'mon, how can we have no future with leaders that are so keen on zooming for Oracle from exotic locales? In all seriousness, my team has no future (Apps) - everyone that I know is either ditching Oracle Apps or wishing that they were ditching them. Same goes for DB - relational db is a dirty world in the cloud business. Being a niche cloud player is not exactly a bright future.

almost all the major people in the database group went to google

So, looks like the db group is pretty much gone. Probably no great improvements there in the future and we all know how much IT groups are working to remove Oracle db. Just look at amazon.

If you work with legacy products like EBS and JDE you probably have a future as they will be around for a really long time.

However when Oracle inevitably gets acquired by Micro Focus for the support contracts, there is likely to be significant layoffs.

Oracle is a stable legacy company with limited growth. People will have decent jobs (not industry leading but better than those of the average man) for many years. Look how long people were working for Novell long after it be came a technology backwater.

As yet there is no sign of the RDBMS loosing market share and things like EBS are pretty dominate (basically there is EBS or SAP, no where else for large companies to go).

Oracle has a future, which may not be that exciting but it will allow a lot of people to pay their bills for a long time.

Oh, such doom and gloom. Oracle could cut the f-t by half and still have a bright tomorrow.

"bright" relative to what?

Just remember, things are always "brightest" right before they go totally black.

Just as the type of comment you feel motivated to leave does not bode well for you!

Well it's clear Oracle has no future

Glad you finally figured it out, but the fact that it took you this long does not bode well for you.
