The most important one being that our pay is not nearly as competitive as they'd like us to think. I've received a few offers and all but one were 20 to 30 percent higher than what I make right now. I'm still reluctant to accept any of them because of the overall economic situation (don't want to be the new guy anywhere right now) but I can tell you for sure that there are available jobs out there that pay more than we earn here.

Good points made throughout this thread. For a true comparison you need to look at the quantitative benefits (i.e. salary, vacation policy, insurance, bonus structure, vesting period, 401K match, etc.) and then throw in the qualitative (i.e. work / balance, culture, etc.). The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence ... and sometimes it is.
Can’t make a comparison just in salary alone. VZ actually has one of the better 401K matches out there. Our benefits are also very good. Our PTO policy (if you can take them) are also very competitive. I wish we can cash out if we can’t use them all. For example, Amazon/ AWS (non warehouse driver) role are right in line with VZ in some cases salaries are lower but their profit share and options are incredible. It is a high stress environment which we all should be used to. A lot of the local cable and telecom pay are similar but cut out a lot on the back end. Research TMo, they aren’t as competitive as they seem. However, a Solutions Architect or a Data Scientist will make 30pct more immediately at Salesforce. Verizon probably won’t be able to match the tech companies in comp or hipster benefits like free lunches and kombucha, but compare to Distributors like Ingram and Synnex or other telecom, VZ is very competitive in over pay and benefits. Try looking Indirect Agent and then make the comparison.
They only hire part time now too. Another "opportunity" to change to part time coming up real soon!
did you include your current benefits and bonus in that calculation of your current salary?
