Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

We need more people

We don't have enough employees to do what needs to be done. With all the layoffs and attrition, we are chronically understaffed. There is always a line right out the door as a result, which only worsens the problem. XOM needs to go on a hiring spree and it needs to start treating employees better so that the new AND the old ones would want to stay. We are screwed otherwise.

@hvt+1aU7lYbR same situation in Singapore. A good thing that the economy is picking up which enabled this exodus. Foolish to stick around.

The best are leaving on their own, no doubt.
So, though the phrase nauseates me now - Be Best!

Another approach than throwing more bodies at it is to figure out what parts of your job are not needed. Then stop doing it.

How about aligning on priorities with your boss? The unimportant tasks will fall to the bottom of the list and may never get done.

You need to start working smarter and not harder. Don’t work all day and night. Question what is being asked of you. Only do what is important. No one is going to tell you to not work all night. You have to do that for yourself.

Nope, EM needs to shrink its workforce more. It is coming. I have been talking to financial advisors and monitoring portfolios of major funds and many of them are removing petroleum stocks. The trend is going green and that means the eventual death of oil.

Smart EM employees should jump ship to other industries as soon as possible. Otherwise, you'll wake up one day without a job. Consider this a warning.

What?!
“Do more with less” ain’t working?!
How about working “fit for purpose”, or “leveraging synergies”?
I mean, the geniuses “right-sized” the organization, so staffing can’t be an use.
It must clearly be operator error.
Higher ups are never wrong.

You are the annoying kid that makes everyone groan when you show up at the playground. You are a si--y that likes to tattle because you can't compete and have no friends. You are so insecure that you wet the bed at night. No one laughs at your jokes, and no one shows up at your birthday party. You are an angry little child that thinks the world owes him whatever he wants.

And you haven't changed a bit since childhood. Keep posting the same tired rhetoric. It doesn't have any entertainment value, but it's all you have. Funny if it wasn't so pathetic and immature.

I do work! After I finish calling random people on speaker phone I'm going on my 10th power walk! I didnt clean and press my xom gear for nothing! I'm like 99.99% sure that I wont be PIPed this year. I told 3 managers yesterday how much I was glad to be back at work! Remember guys! Power walk, print out documents and tell all managers you see that you missed seeing them!

Companies are not benevolent. Their boards do not sit around probing how to increase salaries and benefits for employees because they want to be generous and liked. Instead, companies decide what total compensation package is required to hire and retain talent. This business principle applies across all industries.

Yes, there are companies that currently offer better packages than EM. If you can hire on with them, good for you. But don’t be so naive to think that those salaries and benefits will never change. If other industries lose billions like O&G did last year, there will be layoffs, loss of company match, etc., just like O&G.

Tech companies are very attractive today. But at some point, they will go through a down cycle. O&G may again be very attractive if profits return. But sooner or later, no matter the industry, that greener grass goes brown for a while during hard times. For many of you, this is your first down cycle and you are angry, bitter and confused. Understandable. But you will go through more cycles over a career, no matter the company or industry. Be prepared for it and choose wisely. Nothing lasts forever, and in the business world, forever may be only a few years.

Keep in mind that the layoffs were not applied evenly. Some groups were heavily impacted, and others had little impact. It wasn’t based on workload levels. Some groups have a heavy workload, but are not highly valued by upper management and had a high percentage of layoffs.

@jat+1aU7lYbR if XOM would truly do what you are suggesting most of the top and middle mgmt. should be gone by now based on their incompetence, including DW. But that didnt happen and will not happen unfortunately.

2019 Retiree here.
I spoke to a Spring campus employee yesterday. He stated people are still quitting as they are fed up with what has happened, is happening with not enough workers, no 401 match, PIP's of good folks and the out sourcing. Even married couples.

Best of luck to those sticking it out.

Put the access FAT (managers) to use. After all they keep saying "We are all in this together" so then they should roll up the sleeves and get down into trenches.

Maybe it’s because we see so many posts with employees saying they are coasting, doing the minimum to get by, plus the id--t that keeps posting power walks as if that is novel or humorous?

Staffing is down single digits so far. If that cripples a company, worker productivity is the problem, not the number of workers. EM needs to find a more effective way to measure who is earning their pay, and then increase layoffs to get rid of the slackers at all levels.

We have all the middle management left to do business with ourselves. What are you smoking? Get back to work!

Power walk time!
