Oracle - the little cloud that couldn't

> “They chose us because of the quality of our network and the distribution and reach of our network,” said Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google’s cloud group.

Google might actually succeed where Oracle couldn't. TK might know what he is doing, just needed the right group of people under him.

Still remember that email from TK that was posted here. Couldn't get the management under him to do anything. He might have left the incompetence at Oracle behind him.

Google won this because of their network. Oracle wouldn't have even been on the shortlist.

A network like that is something you can't fake, like Oracle does with "OCI regions".

Putting a few racks in a colo and calling it a region might fool some customers, and you can add capacity as they order it.

But laying submarine cables and building a private global fiber network takes years and costs $B's. You can't fake that.
