I read the editorial on WaPo last night. She got flamed by the commenters there. How could she not have foreseen how poorly her thinly veiled threats would be received? Then again, she repeatedly demonstrated poor judgment and cluelessness in spewing misinformation about contractor requirements and cost trade offs.
Here’s the takeaway for Chuckie though: The Washingtonian probably has one physical location/office. With our id--tic hub strategy, we’ve got a handful+ of far-flung locations, most with several different offices scattered across a metro area. Charlie’s got even less rationale than foolish Cathy - many of us are not in the same freaking office, city or even state as our teammates and colleagues!! So id--tic. 😡
I can't believe that a CEO wants folks back in the office to celebrate birthdays. When did that become a job requirement? If I am working from home I can celebrate my birthday with the people who genuinely care about me and not coworkers who are participating for the sake of appearing to be contributing team members.

OpEd sounds like the truth, which a lot of people don't like to hear. Resist away. The problem with this situation is that people are hanging their hat on something that intuitively makes sense, and yet has been proven wrong in the actual data. Hide at homers have been MORE likely to test positive for COVID than people in the workplace, not less. Google, you'll find the research, but we can stop with the faux-fear. If COVID scares you to death, you should be begging to go back to the office, as soon as possible. Unless you just don't believe the data. Now if you just want to WFH forever because you like it better, go for it, I'd agree with you. But now that the science is in let's stop pretending that safety is what the argument is about.

It does reflect how management tries to control their employees, through veiled (and unveiled) threats. Important reminder, from this article, is that employees have power if then band together.
Charlie can’t do it without his employees.
Unless Charlie plans on learning how to be a personal banker, a teller, an auditor, an accountant, a mortgage loan officer, an underwriter, a trader, a trade processor, a research analyst, a programmer, a customer service rep, a lawyer, an accounts payable clerk, and an HR rep:

And they want you to buy in to the “everyone is replaceable” propaganda. In some cases, it’s true. But never underestimate the value of an experienced trained reliable honest professional emotionally intelligent employee.
