Branch banking busy work is out of control

Has anyone else who works in a branch noticed the amount of nonsense calls and meetings we are having? As a PB1 or whatever they call us now, we have to do multiple calls, meetings, activities that do nothing to create business for the company and just waste everyone’s time. The premier banker in my branch is on calls to “develop” her skills everyday for hours and never has the time to actually do business with her customers. She is spending more time doing prep work for conference calls to impress her sales coach than she is spending time trying to get new customers.
I feel like there is a lot of “sales coaches” who are pushing these trainings to show corporate that they should keep their jobs.

Branch bankers are getting One One Hundredth of what degreed professional finance and B.A. degrees, not to mention M.BA.s are expected to handle.

You folks are simply in the wrong line of work. Branch banking is honestly simple stuff. It is mostly clerical work that needs to be accurate, combined with the ability to manage your tasks and meetings.

You cannot fathom the level of dedication. detailed thinking, hours worked and personal organization needed to build the systems and processes which you work for. Other retail work might be better for you, but I don’t see anything above cashier as a possibility.

@51ob. If that is true, then why have them? Didn’t you say you have a staff? Calling all meetings useless because yours aren’t effective isn’t wise.

Meetings can be effective if they have a firm agenda that you stick to, whether that takes 15 minutes or an hour. When it’s done, it’s done. It’s the people that just like to hear themselves talk that you have to guard against.

Meetings to have meetings are silly, and every meeting over an hour, you lose your audience, but many people here do not seem to realize that.

I have team meetings ever day with my peers, weekly 1:1’s with my staff, twice a month team meetings.

Meetings are the mark of an inefficient organization. We could easily gut our meetings by half and be far more efficient than waste time instead of working

It’s not just the branches. I once figured out that I spend 30% of my time on meetings and tasks that have nothing to do with my actual deliverables.

All-team calls, team meetings, check-in meetings, timesheets, surveys, meetings about surveys, meetings about meetings, writing objectives, meetings about objectives, birthday and holiday gatherings and various other events and forced socializing, going through reams of worthless reply all emails - it all adds up.
