Sales associates getting paid time and a half on weekends

At our store support is pi**ed. It’s not fair that we will not get paid the time and a half. Our management team is clueless. She announced this morning that support can pick up selling shifts to make time and a half but it’s not possible. We are already scheduled 40 hours a week and are already working on Friday's and Saturdays. Even if we do pick up a 6th day of course it’s already time and a half. Why are they rewarding sales associates that are prone to calling out??? It’s not fair. All support needs to start calling out on the weekends and see how well that goes over when there really is none on the sales floor to direct customers to fitting room, restrooms , etc

Anyone wonder why the company is doing this? It's because business is coming back and we pay so poorly and expectations are so unrealistic that we can't find people to work. So in order to get the people who do work here to pick-up more hours, we are paying time and half for weekends. How about raising the minimum in-hire rate to $15 an hour like other national retailers? Nah, why don't we spend some more time talking about social issues because that's what retail wage workers really care about, not being able to provide for our families or perhaps only having to work just one job. Come on Jeff, do you and the other senior leaders really need to make more than 500x the average Macy's worker? How about instead of another week of understanding, we have a week of how to use hamburger helper to stretch ourridiculously low Macy's hourly wage? You can be the hamburger helper CEO.

Are they trying to get the support team to quit so that they don’t have to lay them off? They are teaching all selling employees to do everything the support team does already through the new integrated workforce ....so if the support team calls out to “prove a point”.... then they will hurt their reliability percentage and then end up being fired for poor attendance and then Macy’s wins by not having to lay them off. Hmmm......

My mistake as I thought it was for certain days this week. Yes it is for a few weekends to come. It’s bribery to get hours filled a
For coverage so customers don’t eat us alive on Medallia! Support colleagues don’t feel as though sales colleagues are being rewarded and you aren’t. It’s bribery plain and simple. And the sales people will feel these customer’s wrath and nastiness during busy sales days. This isn’t about showing appreciation, it’s bribery & combat pay.

Fulfillment is considered support. So they get nothing, and have to work harder than sales people. Makes Macys sense to me. Reward week associates at the cost of strong associates.

It’s not just for one weekend

It’s only for certain days during this Mother’s Day weekend. We have no coverage. This horrible news hr system has delayed hiring for almost 2 months and pretty much no one is even applying for all these open jobs Macy’s took away commission and won’t budge from the $9/hr pay. I drove past McDonald’s yesterday and they are now starting at $11! This is why they are doing the time and a half—-they need people to pick up more shifts and or extend their current shifts. It’s going to be a customer experience disaster with no coverage and these lines.

Oops my bad, I'll admit, I was the first comment here. I had been out of the loop so was not aware about the time and a half incentive on weekends for sales associates. So yes any thumbs (arrows) down to my initial comment is understandable, give me all you want, I want to break the arrows down record.
Now that I'm in the loop, I can see how this would be unfair to sales support who work on weekends. Macy's needs to do the right thing and PAY EVERYONE time and a half if they work weekends, regardless of which dept they work in. COME ON MACY'S, FOR ONCE DO SOME THING RIGHT!!!

Commenter it’s true that support is already scheduled 40 hours at regular pay. But selling area associates will be paid time and a half even if the only work 20 hours. It’s wrong and it’s going to cause support associates to call out in hopes that they will get an overtime incentive as well

You’re wrong!!!! Salem’s associates will be paid time and a half after they work the first four hours of their shift. Regardless if all they work is weekends. It’s not fair! You clearly are not in the know!

OP I'm not sure what you are upset about, any hourly associate who works over 40 hrs is paid time and a half. I guess maybe you are upset that you have to pickup shifts on sales floor in order to get OT? If you don't want to work on sales floor, then that's on you, how bad do you want the OT?
Also, just because a sales associate works on weekends, that does not mean they get paid time and a half for it. You can only get time and a half if you go into OT or work a paid holiday.
