@2kal+1aE5WODR it looks like whoever decided to ship those jobs overseas should have performed a risk analysis to determine what a pandemic (yes, those are built into BCP plans) would look like in a country that spends less than 1% GDP on healthcare (for reference, the US spends 18%). Shortcuts and cutting corners will always catch up to you.
Our group just left India we had contractors here we lost them we now have partners in Manila.
I am kind of worried as there is a LOT of production support work, previously performed by USA based Wells Fargo team mates that was outsourced to India. For our team that production support work is "critical" to our ongoing operations at Wells Fargo. So far the India team has been doing a really good job. I hope they do not all get sick with Covid, or that the India infrastructure needed for them to do their work does not fail due to shutdowns and illness. The former USA based Wells Fargo internal employees who also know how to do that key production support work have all moved on to different internal jobs at Wells Fargo, in different departments so we cannot "get them back" if needed.

They cant wfh because infrastructure sucks there. Things we take for granted in getting clean signal thats protected arent a reality for everyone there. Half the workforce live in shanties that surround the office. Can you imagine trying to funnel voice and video tgrough a pirate line connected directly to a telephone pole over wi fi that a million people are competing for?
why can't India WFH? I know alot of workers in India that are WFH for a long time even before COVID.
Oh btw when they asked about what to do on the India shutdown front a year ago and I told them (candor) they said it was rude and that was held against me for my review!! So No More Candor for me .. Do my job if they ask , I will try to avoid answering.
@1toc+1aE5WODR someone else posted an article here where the Indians are now working from home. I guess securing data is no longer an issue for WF.
I told management a year ago when India first shut down!! Told them to hire in USA as they could have laptops and work from home!! But what do I know I am only the PEON that does the work everyday!!

Yeah, you could pretty easily say the same thing a US workforce. Redundancy is a good thing.

There is Covid virus all around the Earth. Some countries get put on lockdown and the supply chain from that country all but stops. Need backups for EVERYTHING now, all over the Earth. Hope Covid ends soon. No meat, few fresh vegetables, no toilet paper (who would have thought), few paper towels, no soap, no sanitizing wipes. Store shelves were empty. Hoarding. It has been a scary time. Need backups.
