I’ve been searching for a few months. I know the jobs are out there so I’m not sure if it’s an age factor. Anyone around my age have any luck getting out? If so, how long did it take you to leave? I’ve been here for more than 10 years, and the time spent here has taken its toll on my health. I can’t quit without having something lined up but I’m afraid my health won’t improve if I remain.

Another 2018 VSPer here. It depends on a number of things. I was 41 when I left, so not quite in the same place as you. Also, I was a "switch" engineer in a larger metro area that has a lot of large companies with IT/ network departments needing more people. At the end of 2018/ start of 2019 the economy was very hot here with very low unemployment. So, those things combined meant I could sample the field and I worked a series of contracts in 2019, until I was recruited into my current permanent position at the end of 2019. I'm 43 now and my job is in a fairly stable sector, so for me, VSP worked out well.
I would think that if you are in retail or customer service, after the whole mess of 2020, it's going to be more difficult to find something. However, with the rollout of vaccines, and the presumed return of business to more "normal" status, that more companies would be looking to hire again. I got recruited basically through LinkedIn, so I recommend having an up-to-date profile there, if you don't already. If you know anyone who took the VSP and is working in a company you're interested in, definitely reach out to them and ask if there might be any additional openings. Good luck.
I had a very difficult time finding a job after I turned 50. It took me approximately a year. Good luck.
2018 VSP here. In my earlier 60's. I thought I could find just one more good job, but it didn't happen. I could of sworn working for Verizon would give me a better chance at another job, but in my case it didn't seem to move the needle. So i am now side hustling, and looking at filing for Social Security. I think its tough for anybody over 40. So yes keep your job for now, keep looking for your next shot at tomorrow, and good luck to you!
Age is a factor. Skills are a bigger one. Get current.
Look at it this way, when is the last time you have seen Verizon Retail hire anyone over the age of 40 ? It just doesn’t happen and we are not the only company to age discriminate. So yes the age factor will way heavily when looking for a new job.
