Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Slight trepidation about giving notice

During the few years spent here there were nice and less nice moments, but overall, it was a pleasure to work at Nike. This is my first job and I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to come here without any previous experience. However, it is time to move on.

I intend to give notice as early as next week and I have to admit I am nervous. What is the best way to go about giving notice?
I wouldn’t like to leave an ugly impression. What worries me the most is what if I am asked about the reasons for leaving and which company I intend to go to.

You don't need to explain yourself nor tell them where you are headed. Exploring another opportunity. That's it.

Good luck in your next adventure. If you received emails of gratitude or recognition, email them to yourself at your personal email address. If you received a fairly good written CFE, send that to yourself as well. (use these as references, bc the company won't allow anyone to give out a reference). If you remove anything from your laptop/pc, have a peer or manager watch you to verify that you are only removing something personal. I.e. family photos, screen savers, etc. Look out for yourself. Oh, and resign at the first of the month, not the last, so that you still have a full month of healthcare coverage....

It won't be dramatic. No one in HR will want to know why you want to leave Nike. Odds are your manager will accept your resignation with little emotion. Definitely get all your ducks in a row before you do this - print out or save anything that will help you when looking for your next job before IT shuts off your access to anything.

Be ready for an escort from campus. I’ve seen multiple people in the OPs shoes, they won’t give a sh– about your feelings on any matters. The second you quit the team you’ll get a Nike to your a– on the way out the door. There won’t be time for goodbyes as a security guard joins you for your last moments at your desk. Be sure to get your letters of rec ahead of time as you’ll be quickly forgotten once on the black list.

You should always use the "its not you its me" excuse for leaving....even if its the other way around.....you never know when you are going to work with these people again.

Don't expect much. My manager practically opened the door for me to leave when I gave my notice.

If you decide to leave Nike's always going to make it seem like you needed them more than they needed you. It's kind of true - there will be a line of people who want to replace you.
