I’m starting to lean towards the personal philosophy of taking the opposite path of Wells Fargo. I say this with a bit of sarcasm, but in truth, I think it could be the way to go.
They support offshoring: I support keeping jobs in the US. They push hard on D & I insincerely and without understanding: I slow down and reassess fixing it at the root. I also take personal responsibility by finding a better job for a wonderful worker, in our department, at another firm. She had been trying for a different job within WFC for 2 years (my friends at the other firm thank me constantly for sending them her way.) WFC supports pushing Managed Money with high fees on
brokerage clients: I support finding an experienced FA who is trustworthy and isn’t just a hired asset gatherer for Wells. They like to push through system-changes to meet random deadlines imposed by out-of-touch overpaid execs upstairs: I say slow it down and do it right the first time. They support paying increasing numbers of Senior Execs outlandish pay while getting rid of my teammates who are actually doing the work: I stand up for my teammates and try to help them stay bulletproof. They want to make a big PR show of feeding the hungry: I say let’s make sure our own employees can keep their jobs and feed their families first.
I think we could start a new company that succeeds by doing the exact opposite of Wells Fargo. That new business would be profitable, creative, forward-thinking, strive for excellence, favored by regulators, led with integrity, have happy and productive employees, attract top talent, receive top reviews from our customers, and beloved by our shareholders.
