Pretty weak article overall BUT, I will say, he's onto something with the PIP/Layoff. If true, that's a pretty disgusting way for a business that touts "Integrity as a competitive advantage" to conduct business.

Face it, EM doesn’t really care. They have plenty of skilled and experienced personnel with plenty of motivation and discipline to run the business, and they won’t have any trouble getting whomever they need in the future. Many of you keep trying to get hugs from EM or to shame them for actions you don’t like. EM doesn’t give hugs, nor do they place much value on the people that need them. This should be obvious by now. You won’t change EM. If that means you can’t continue working there, so be it. Lots of employees waited decades for a change, and it didn’t happen, at least not for the better. Not running anyone down, but if you don’t fit at EM, either prepare for long term disappointment or find a happier place of employment.

Put into words what I have believed for a long time. Our employee development process should be something we are eager to participate in. Who doesn’t want to improve? However we all know it is broken.

“It takes something that is supposed to be developmental for employees and turns it into a tool for managing workforce change,” said Sucher, coauthor of The Power of Trust: How Companies Build It, Lose It, Regain It, which will be published in July. “No one is fooled by this, and employees, in fact, resent it more.”

@xku+19kqsohc - That’s correct.

The disingenuous mishandling of the PIP process will always be remembered by remaining employees who realize the Company may well do it to them in the future. That reduces trust and employee morale.

Grown ups call a layoff a layoff. Entitled nit wits who are in over their heads try to deceive everyone and call it business as usual performance management.

Classic short term thinking to save a few bucks on severance that results in long term mistrust.

The quote about being late to the employee forum because his private jet had trouble landing is priceless.
Encapsulates the absurdity and the tone deafness of the privileged few.

Meanwhile the titanic sinks and boxes at being sent to wrong recipients. Classic Exxon.

Just using the PIP system as a headcount reduction tool (then the CEO stating otherwise) has significantly reduced company morale.

Would have been better for the corporation to keep 3% NSI targets and layoff more people versus what they did.
