Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Prejudices about BN employees

Many B&N employees have no skills that will translate to the new real world, no updated resumes and B&N doesn’t look good on them, are too old (companies don’t want anyone over 35 now), lazy and too scared to look, no confidence, easier to stick with the horrible environment you know instead of taking a chance on something you’ll even hate more. Plus, have you seen some of the people who work at BN? Would you hire them?

I was never afraid to accept the truth no matter how ugly it was, but I think that this rude post from the +19cyK1am thread (about why we haven’t already found a new job and left BN) is not true.
I am neither lazy nor older than 35, my resume is full of experience, but I still can’t find a job. So if those who think this is the case and who have managed to find a job quickly in today's economy, could please reveal the secret to the rest of us and tell us where to look for it?

2018 was the coffin nail.
Letting the dedicated career employees go and replacing them with part time fill ins was a bad decision. Cost them a lot of business and put their customer confidence at risk.
They deserve what they get.

There’s no “prejudices” future employers will have toward BN employees. They’ll know that those fired in 2018 are worth hiring. And, their part time ,minimum wage, replacement ,wannabe booksellers, that were there made the company much worse.

Have an online portfolio of work that demonstrates your skills in your target job. It's easy to write a couple of lines on a resume. It's another thing entirely to have work product out there ready for the public at large to peruse.

Based on the three different BNs I’ve worked, the post was totally true.
