Nike is vacating a lot of leased space in Beaverton, does that mean we may be gearing up for a remote working future? Anyone heard anything?

IT = 2500 seats => Outsource !
All of those perks were on their way out by the time I left a couple years ago. Cafeterias got more expensive, fewer events on campus, sample sales being replaced by "The Van", etc. etc. And Nike still made more revenue in 2020 over 2018 & 2017 despite the pandemic, no Olympics, and declining pro sports ratings.
I can't even imagine how much money Nike is saving now with everyone working remote.... where does it all go??
A former employee here, and I know people that still work there. Nike has no real plan to bring people back to permanent desks/offices despite having just completed a massive campi=us expansion. That was all paid for anyway before the pandemic with massive cash they had on hand anyhow. They are not even having people come to campus in the future for anything other than for essential meetings or presentations after state guidance is established. They were using zoom in the beginning but now they have their own proprietary zoom type program for online work, and it seems like a nightmare because you have hourly check-in, even if nothing is scheduled. The employees have also lost all the perks of campus- such as various events, appearances by Nike athletes, cafeteria meal discounts/ free meals for meetings, reduced hours/access to campus gyms and swimming pools despite the membership price increase. Additionally, They have cut a lot of design jobs, marketing and have consolidated many other roles/functions across categories by consolidating specific roles into a larger general department for all the categories/geographies and eliminate the specific roles previously held within each category.
Clickbait reporting.
The moves were planned well before the pandemic as they're moving into their new buildings on campus.
Nothing to see hear.
I think everyone* thinks things will go back the way they used to be after the vaccinations are widespread.
Time will tell....
- if you have a body....
The original plan was to save money in the long term by bringing everyone back to WHQ. Though, I wonder how COVID will play into this, since so much of the office space is open-plan and encourages people to gather together to work.
I think the Serena building is near completion if not completed yet. That building is huge! Same square feet as Big Pink building in downtown Portland. That will empty out Mia Hamm building which is now the 2nd largest building on campus and perhaps other buildings. So a bunch of open space on campus to fill.
I am sure getting rid of Tek was in the plan. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't shut down Evergreen as well.
I am hearing no full time remote work ever. They are planning to have more "offices" so more teams of people spread out. Like they are hiring a bunch of tech folks in SF "office".
My LT: Commutable proximity to WHQ is no longer required for knowledge workers. You can reside wherever you want as long as you can perform your job within WHQ core hours
Nike HR: Residing within commutable proximity to WHQ remains an expectation, as you may eventually be required to return to campus.
Nevermind that ALL our recent hires are remote/outside Oregon.
Left hand, right hand, different bodies altogether.
