Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

This is Oxy!

Nothing ever really works or makes sense. Goals are a joke, as were performance reviews. Pretty sure this whole BAR thing is just another half-done program that Oxy launches but never fully goes through with it. Performance lies in who you know and how well they rep you. Not about value, integrity, curiosity or innovation. That is the Oxy way.

Perfectly stated, @woa+19el7wcZ.

I am LAPC and quit last month to protect my pension
Best thing I did in my career was to get out of that company

All the LAPC guys quitting last month and this month are quitting for exactly that reason - to protect their gold plated pensions and to prevent LOXY from downsizing them - Smart people these LAPC
Much richer and much smarter than the LOXY people who agreed to pay a ton of money for APC

Oxy are a very poor company and have no skills dealing with problems - Its all done by a committee and everyone shares a little bit of blame for the inevitable failure
Still when your president and CEO is an id–t in the 1st order then its not surprising that many of the grunts are not very bright either - Just a LAPC view of the new company

I agree on the below. If oil prices continue to rise we might actually get to see if the deal works. The deal itself could not of come at a worse time with Covid hitting us so hard and the oil prices dropping like they did. In all fairness we need a year of doing business as a combined company without the pandemic. The fact we are still standing after the past year is amazing to me. You just could not of scripted a worse situation than 2020 brought all of us.

One small idea: Why don't we just set the negativism aside, and focus on doing our job? I bet that if we now focus on improve things at our scale, we'll help the company become the place we want. People with such negative attitude, hoping for someone else to turn Oxy into the company they want make me sick.

They really did not put much thought into how best to integrate the two companies. It seems like a bunch of amateurs were involved in making this deal happen. Dream team my arse. If I read any more about how great this deal was I will vomit until my insides are raw.

The previous post was very negative. Oil prices are high and so revenue should be great this quarter. However increased profits should go to the stockholders instead of the employees. Employees think they have it bad but they are getting paid a great wage even without the extra payments for the spoiled (bonus and LTI). Meanwhile stockholders are getting screwed on dividends. Maybe the company doesn’t really value shareholders. Without happy shareholders the stock price would drop and the raiders would come in to give mister Icahn some competition on the board.
What a screwed up company. Perhaps this entire Anadarko purchase was just a poison pill so no one will want Oxy. What an incompetent action if that were the case. Where was the BOD when this was going on.

There is no money for COC. LOXY will be gone before Oxy pays anyone a year’s salary again. I feel people will be on PIPS they can’t meet, and be laid off with 3 mos or less. Throw in the 60 day WARN notice and five months at the most. The good packages are gone. Having a job during these times is worth more than 5 months pay.

People waiting for the COC are wasting their time. They will keep you on the payroll until COC is no longer an issue. Then they will let you go if performance is average or sub-par.

If you don’t want to work for Oxy then leave. Don’t be a pu–y and hang around because you don’t have any other opportunities.

Oxy has always wanted to be a real oil company but hasn’t achieved that yet. Those who have worked for majors(and COP) should understand what a real oil company is.

My replies in parentheses. When you point a finger at someone, there are three more pointing back at you

Nothing ever really works or makes sense (you can help with that). Goals are a joke (you can help with that), as were performance reviews (you can help with that). Pretty sure this whole BAR thing is just another half-done program that Oxy launches but never fully goes through with it (but you can help keep that from happening.) Performance lies in who you know and how well they rep you (No, and I'm sorry you feel that way). Not about value, integrity, curiosity or innovation (you can help with it). That is the Oxy way (No, that is your way)

That it a shame. If you cannot perform for max 2 years in a row you should be gone. Responsible VPs review all negative performance reviews and ask for feedback from different resources. If there is a problem Oxy tries to remedy the situation before firing someone. It is the lower management levels that allow problems to fester for six years.

They can have whatever name they want or no name at all. Performance evaluations at Oxy are simple, little documented and quick. You either do the job or don't. They won't fire you right away if you don't perform. They will give you some time, 2 to 6 years, then bye bye amigo

In other words "Yes, that is the Oxy way, get used to it."

I do hear there are better companies out there that value such things.
