Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Failed to innovate

Trends are changing and so are the people, but despite that, it is not unknown that Macys has never appreciated innovation. We all see the consequences of that.
However, even today it is not clear to me why all innovative ideas have always been rejected? Is the reason that doing so is too much risk or perhaps something completely different?

Most of the photos that pop up on #macysstylecrew are just terrible – bad lighting, boring style, a bunch of wannabe influencers.

It doesn't surprise me that the social media managers are bad at Instagram. The one woman who was (still is?) in charge of Style Crew has less than 1,000 followers and isn't very cool or stylish.

First off, they have managers in place to control social media channels that DON’T even have Instagram themselves?!? That makes no sense to me. A lot of their decisions for social media are things they should’ve been doing five years ago. I’ve even had some ideas taken from me without even any recognition...

I was really into the Macy’s Style Crew since it began. It’s an extremely innovative concept if done right. Unfortunately, it has been managed horribly and it has become an over saturated program that lost its original vision. Now it’s all about accepting anyone to take advantage of free marketing, they only care about the sale and promoting their friends in corporate.

The amount of money they spend on marketing is absurd but they pay you like .03 cents a view to promote the Macy’s brand to your community. Majority of people just run around the store taking pics of displays or use pics from .com anyways so how is that innovative???

This is what happens when you have the wrong people in the wrong place!!

Yup and instagram is setting themselves up to be one big online shopping center almost like Amazon they should start giving bigger influencers sponsorships

If you look at the Macy's Instagram, they are clearly aiming for a younger demographic but if you go into the stores, it's an overload of Charter Club, Karen Scott and Alfani. They need to make up their mind what they want to be known for.

And speaking of Instagram, they totally screwed the pooch during lockdown last year. When stores were closed last spring and everyone was furloughed, they shut down their social media! They couldn't see the value of keeping the social media team on payroll while we were all stuck at home ONLINE SHOPPING for 18 hours a day? This speaks to lack of innovation (and common sense!)

I think their issue is they don't promote themselves and new features well they expect employees in store to do all of their marketing
they're real good with letting people know we're having a one day sale if and only if you watch cable TV or are signed up for their emails
Whenever we get new brands that people have been asking for customers don't really know I don't feel like mystylist has been promoted all that well either
macys has cool features like scan and pay why does no one know that we basically have self checkout? I mean we're in the middle of a pandemic that could have maybe gotten people talking I could see something like that going viral on social media

I agree with you they need to start taking risks and trying new things their old client base is dying off the younger generation usually only comes in because their grandma or parents dragged them in or unfortunately you see a lot of young people come in just to steal
