Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

Bye bye 9/80

Anyone else stirred up over the end of 9/80s? Don’t worry, I’m sure bp&me will solve all out problems.

Yes, pay is coming down soon - already heard from one UK person, 8000K cut (pounds), maybe to be more competitive with Nupower????? No worries, just think of the all the good you are doing to help the transition. Obviously need less people that get paid less to watch windmills spin!

They wanted to give people more flexibility was the official line. Does not make a lot of sense though? Oh and downstream didn’t have it so not fair.

Well that bp and me bs session didn't make me feel any better about the decision. Once it goes away, I am not working a single minute passed my 8 hours. Even if I did go above and beyond, I won't be recognized since apparently your rating won't be reflected in your bonus. How's that for motivation?

This is purely anecdotal, but from what I've seen people who have flexible work schedules such as 9/80 and 4/10 are more productive because they are fiercely protective of that schedule. When I was on a 4/10 schedule I always answered my phone if anyone called with a question, and often put in some work on my Friday because I didn't want it taken away.

Once they yanked the 4/10 schedule away from us, many of us worked our 8 hour day and not a minute more.

9/80 == work eighty hours over nine business days, having every other Friday off. This requires sufficient team staffing to have coverage.

I remember when they took 4/10's away at Cherry Point. The schedule had been in place for decades, people built their lives around that schedule. There were people in tears over the change. BP is never one to miss an opportunity to k–l morale for zero productivity benefit. I can't stress enough how liberating it is to be free of BP.

Don’t worry as the company is going in a different, better direction now. Energy Reimagined is being replaced with Dental Hygiene Reimagined. It is true. Top Level Management in the UK office have discovered the toothbrush. This follows the other major discovery last month in Scotland, the World’s Largest Pickle. The company will start making money again.

Seems like benefits are being aligned with those of utility companies now were no longer an IOC. Pay alignment next?

They took 9-80's away at Whiting in 2016 and the move was universally reviled by everyone on-site. Seems like they just want morale in the sh–ter.

Yes terrible decision even if we continue working remotely as a permanent solution. Not sure this increases productiveness and it doesn’t save the company money so why implement it other than under the appearance of fairness to those that don’t have the option? Another concern is what might be next to stop...401k match, pension, bonuses.
