Why can’t they just bring people laid off back who want to come back and buy out all the people who are close to retiring?

I agree with the one comment about getting laid off again in the near future. If you didn't have anything then going back is one thing, but if you had a decent job with benefits it would be hard to burn a bridge with an employer to go back to NS and risk getting laid off in the fall. I think most of these call backs are more or less furlough relief or vacation relief. Business does not appear to be pick up

I want a job in the signal dept. Mon-Fri daylight, with a little call outs. Company truck, go home clean everyday for the most part. Sign me up

I have read somewhere online a Company Official, possibly Sanborn I cant remember, stating they wouldnt be hiring but plan on retraining some furloughed employees to fill possible open positions in other crafts. It was also stated they expect total employee numbers to stay the same or slightly decrease.
