Is deadline today, 3/15, to cutover to using Skype for calls/mtgs? I've heard nightmare stories about lines cutting out and not working. Any tips? (Incl. which headsets are best to order from Procurement)

Skype meetings are actually too simple to even think about.
Most meetings with Skype have a phone number on the meeting invitation that you can use to dial in with any phone-desk, mobile, etc. Our department loves using Skype. I have a friend in another department that is in the Teams pilot and complains about it all the time. Outages and not everything works all the time and calling TC s—s because they don’t know how to support it.
I prefer calling with skype, much easier when making calls and starting meetings. I also was provided skype dial in so no issues there, can also use skype for business on my mobile device to intimate and dial into calls
Don't worry work computers are going away also. Tech strategy will eliminate work phones and you will be able to use your personal devices like laptops, tablets, phones with BYOD. Article on Teamworks.
For those saying some variation of "get with the times!", the VOIP/Skype/Teams calls have serious limitations. In the good old days I could use my work cell or personal cell and attend a call while on the go. I did calls in airports, in rental cars, in my personal vehicle, in the grocery store, etc., because sometimes things happen outside 'bankers hours' when I'm not at my computer. Speaking of which, our computers aren't the most reliable thing in the world either. With call in lines I can attend even if my PC has completely melted down, now I have that single point of failure instead. I can see using these VOIP/PC calls for many roles, but the idea that they are universally a good thing is ridiculous. Believe it or not, not everything "works" 100% of the time, nor are people within arms reach of their work computer / network 100% of the time.
I hear the switchboard operators and the telegraph are the next to go. At least we'll still have the pony express and morse code to rely on.
Skype has a max attendance of 250 people. MS Teams allows more, but I don't know the exact threshold value.
That VOIP echo is probably due to both your phone and laptop microphone picking up your voice transmissions. If you are calling in and are near your laptop, disable the mic.

You just cannot make these things up.
3/1 Was the deadline, you have to have the Cisco jabber software install on your machine for the Skype to work correctly. Any headset with Skype capabilities will work fine. If your an external consultant you can continue using your conference line as the Skype dial function is disabled for vdi use.
Wait until they take away your voicemail and then maybe phone number.
All my conference lines have been working today.
@OP , I used the Jabra Evolve 75. It was only one of two that were blanket authorized for my dept. My only complaint is that it is a dual ear unit vs single.
I’m also not enthusiastic about the fact that most folks, as far as I can tell, aren’t granted the ability to have a call in number nor are we allowed to make outbound calls. So it’s for internal use only. Need to use your BYOD celly for anything outside of internal Skype regardless of it being 100% work related.
This switch was actually painless. One of the things that so far has made sense.

Or on the other hand, people could learn to read. Most people went to Skype meetings last year and we're cutting over to MS Teams in the next couple of months.
this is another example of the pathetic Tech Department here. They all need to be replaced or outsourced to a consulting company.

It probably varies by LOB. You can still dial in via POTS as I think most people are providing Skype call-in numbers. People have a hard enough time listening to me once, but now they will get me in VOIP echoecho tootoo.
It’s kind of layoffish in that it adds to the malaise.
If this is the plan, it's a bad one...Skype is going away in July. Not really going away, but no more MS support means no more security updates. I presume that means IT won't tolerate it, so MS Teams will be the plan.
Anyway, if the conf lines go away, it will s— because we won't be able to attend meetings from anywhere but our work 'puter, and if we have network issues, we can't just fall back on a personal cell or anything.
