What value do Managers provide to the company?

It wasn't that long ago they were responsible for the schedules, for disciplining employees, & ensuring the building was secure. Serious question, now that the leads do all 3 of these things what do the Managers have left. I think the only thing I can't do that a manager can is look at security video. I don't even dislike the Managers at my store, they are good people but most of the time they just stock or zone in the early mornings, or sit in the office most of the evening if they close. You can tell they don't care as much as they use to, and who could blame them. If I were them I would be thinking about why the company keeps me employed and for how long? With the elimination of nights, our CM has become unfocused, instead of prioritizing what needs done and how to accomplish it, he/she just keeps repeating the same tasks need done over and over and all at once and what actually gets achieved is 25% of everything were trying to accomplish. So some of everything gets done but none of it gets done completely. I don't blame him/her because HO forces stores to do things with no real knowledge of how long a task takes or how many ppl it takes to accomplish it. I guess the whole company lacks focus and it feels like no one cares, from HO to the associates, and it shows.

But most leads are id–ts! How can HO think this is right? They haven't been screened. Most aren't even good people and they will have access to your personal files. This has been a very bad idea.

^He's right. Eventually there will just be a Club Manager and a Co-Manager. They're going to cut all the Assistant Manager jobs and they've been restructuring all the management duties to Team Leads so they can cut Assistant Managers and save money on payroll and benefits. I got restructured a year ago, right before COVID. Walmart (Sam's) paid me through June to sit on my couch and collect a paycheck via severance. LOL.

The club I come from has team leads that change associates schedules on a daily basis. Part of this is to p*ss off long time or unliked associates and part is to allow a buddy time off. It has been this way for about 5 years. Its management's fault for giving their users and passwords to these scheming team leads.

Our leads do all the above. All I hear for manager is ‘we need more ,plus, credits and new member’. They do put out fires if it cannot be handled by the leads. All are very nice. They have to do what corporate tells them.

This was the plan home office had all along. Eventually there will be only a club and co manager. The leads will actually be managers without getting the official title so they can't use it on their resumes to get better jobs and leave the company. I've been saying this for almost 3 years.
