Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Don’t be afraid to leave!

I was a GM/SM for around 5-6 years, with the company almost 10. I was stuck and going to work in the Retail channel was at best depressing. Seeing how the company was changing didn’t give me any confidence of staying with VZW. From the looks of it it’s not any better.

I’m just stopping by to tell anyone that is afraid to leave that the grass is much greener on the other side and sometimes you need to hear it from someone who has gone through leaving after being there so long. You can do it, you don’t need to stay in a position that doesn’t make you happy. I’ve been there and it was terrible. VZW takes your life, go get it back.

You’re preaching to a deaf choir. SM’s that have been in the role 3+ years? They’re going nowhere, only a layoff will separate them from the company. Reps that are 30+ yrs old and have been reps the entire time? They have no marketable skills outside of retail sales. They’re not leaving until they’re laid off.

VZW treated me right, until I did my DM a favor, and then got rewarded with being laid off thanks to my store closing. I applied for every single opening of my position in the country, most of which were in places I would never even visit otherwise. In one month, I had 21 interviews, and got NO offers. For what it's worth, in 14 years with the company, I was rated as "leading" for at least the last 7 years running, of not further back. I know I was making a dump truck of cash every month, even in one team, so I guess I was making too much money to keep? If that's true they could have just told me that upfront instead of wasting my time giving me hope that I'd get hired on somewhere else. But no, verizon couldn't even give me that courtesy. Good for me the wife and I are good with money and have no debt. It took me all of 2 weeks to get a new job after gtfo day. I'm happier, but not happier enough to not miss the paycheck I was getting. Getting out of VZW may be "better" but it's not necessarily "better" for everyone.

You don’t get the point of the post then lol. I worked at Verizon and I know how I felt in the retail channel and hopefully just giving people that need some confidence that things can be better if they were as miserable as I was. I’m not saying my place that I went to would work for anyone else but it has given me my life back. That’s why I came back, I don’t read the stuff people write just wanted to throw some hope for people that do come on here. I came on here to look before I left so I know types on people are on here.

Well, it's always nice to hear people that supposedly left for greener pastures, take the time to comment on an anonymous layoff board of their previous employer.... Why do all these greener pasture, ex employees, never state where these greener pastures are on an anonymous layoff board? If, it is so great where you are now, why would you bother commenting on here at all? Do you also stalk your ex girlfriends/boyfriends social media to tell them how much better you are without them too? Btw, I am not defending Verizon this applies to any company.

@vsp+19OMIoG1 You may be part of the reason the company is laying off people if you’re making that doing that job. Sounds like it is a fulfilling thing you’re doing.
