Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Sam’s Club has become a horrible place to work

What has happened to Sam’s? I’m one of those long term Associates Sam’s quit caring about years ago!
I’m very sad to say after I’ve spent 27 years with this company it’s time to say Goodbye!
The Company no longer values long term Associates and they prove that daily by their actions. They Do not back us and they have lost their History and Ethnics along the way.
When you are so depressed to go to work every single day it’s time to go!
Managers are unapproachable at my club and that’s what our club manager wants.
Years ago they wanted “Servant Leadership”
But that’s gone now along with all of Mr. Sam’s values and beliefs. He made a great company to work for and that’s no longer the case.
Managers need changed every so often because when they aren’t it can be toxic to a work environment. Years ago Managers were required to move around and that’s a good thing bc think about the favoritism that goes on and how that brings morale down in so many clubs. I had planned on retiring from Sam’s but my plans changed when Sam’s changed. As a Loyal long term Associate that no longer feel valued by this company and has forced me to no longer value them. Sam’s club you were once a wonderful place to work and a place I was proud of but you made the decision to lose sight of what was most important and that was your loyal long term associates! I was proud and always stood up for you but that has ended and quite frankly can’t even stand to shop at Sam’s anymore because I get a sick feeling that’s a grim reminder of past treatment! 😢

There was a time when this company took care is the Associates. Now it’s just awful. No communication, no morning meetings, no one even acknowledges or talks about Associate of the Month. I’ve always believed that if you take care of the Associate, they will take care of the members and go above and beyond to help members and work as a team. It’s not that way anymore. Coach’s talking c-ap on the walkie talkie’s, joking around. Doing impersonations of other managers and associates. So unprofessional. The reason long term Associates are leaving is that they have low tolerance for this B.S.

As long as the profits continue to rise, it’s going to get worse for the associates. They wanna exploit the younger generation as much as possible. They feel like we can just replace everyone. They been restructuring for the past 10 years. What they don’t understand is that this generations work ethic isn’t the same as the people that’s been there 15 plus years. Until they figure that out, they will continue to fail with team leads, associates and managers. It also doesn’t help the the training is horrendous. They just bump the pay in certain areas to attract people and then what happens is that you have all these people making 15 16 an hour and are horrible workers

I actually like my club and management team. Either I’m lucky or this place is just full of entitlement. Hmmmm

I went through the same thing. Long time associates were once assets and now liabilities. I think it goes further than just being older...they really don't like the knowledge we have. We've seen it all and it hasn't been pretty. Sam's may have been very busy with this virus going on....but I doubt it will stay that way. The deceit, the constant changes, the team leads feeling some sort of power and getting away with their evil ways. It's all bad. Many other jobs out there and they treat employees so much better! The good old days are a thing of the past at Sams/Walmart.

As a long term assistance I understand what’s being said about working at the club in the Sam Walton era. All Associates were treated better but you new associates have never known what’s it’s like and the history that’s not even mentioned anymore. It’s a chaotic unappreciated hostile work environment at most clubs now!
They don’t even have basic customer service skills anymore and that’s proven daily by the Long lines.
I remember when the manager over the front end would get a write up if their were more than 3 members in the same line! lol Sam’s has really went to hell in a hand basket!

I use to have a big smile on my face too in the morning when I got to work. One day a receiving lady ask me, "How come you're always smiling"? And my quick thinking said, "Because I have on clean underwear"😃 It's the simple things in life.

Sam Walton values and beliefs? Talk about drinking the cool aide. Here's three examples of his values and beliefs:

"He did everything he could to avoid paying even the minimum wage. The Labor Department investigated Walton for his illegal practice of using a "small business" exception to the minimum wage. When the Labor Department ruled against him, he sued in federal court to keep paying his workers below the minimum wage. "

"In the 1960s, the first attempts were made to organize Walton's workers–by the Retail Clerks Union, one of the forerunners of the present-day United Food and Commercial Workers union (UFCW). Connie Kreyling, a worker at the Mexico, Mo., Wal-Mart, was fired for trying to organize a union, and fought for two years to get her job back"

You wonder why Sam's Club does it's best to get rid of long time employees? Here's your answer. "the leak of an internal memo outlining a plan to hold down health care costs. How? By dissuading "unhealthy people from coming to work at Wal-Mart." Our manager won't hire older people, and she does her best to eliminate the ones we have. My God, they withheld legacy sick time! They stole our time. Kept it from us. What happens to you if you steal time? They fire you.

This is a horrible company, ran by the richest family in America. You say they don't care. You're right. They don't. At least not about you or me or any employee. Neither did Sam Walton. All he cared about was himself. Go, go now and read about this so called great man.

Trust me when I say there are other jobs with the same pay and much less stress out there. I quit after 20 years and have no regrets. The grass is greener on the other side. Nobody wants to work if they can get 600 dollars per week unemployment through September. Menial jobs are paying 20 dollars per hour minimum.
