Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

How are you doing? (Job search, mental health, workload etc.)

Personally, after being impacted by the recent study I have been applying for jobs in O&G sector and other allied industries (chem, production, manufacturing, environment) with no luck. Exploring opportunities to diversify my career options and transition out of O&G, including upskilling via university programs. Updating resumes and making use of RM services. Keeping myself busy and positive without any regrets for being laid off. I do have occasional episodes of shame and anger for being set-up to fail because of a toxic-narcissistic boss but I consider it a blessing to be no longer working with this company.

Wanted to reach out (impacted & not-impacted) and check how you guys are doing? Any luck with job search? Workload? Mental health? News about additional layoff? Ideas to help with job search strategies and career transitioning? Other help resources for those impacted Etc.

Would like to encourage all respondents to keep this post constructive and troll free to help support each other. Best wishes to ya'll.

Right Management is an excellent placement service. Kudos to Imperial for extending this courtesy.

Being let go was one of the best things that could have happened to me. Toxicity, grovelling and cliques led by foreman and managers actually caused my stomach to turn each time the word “Culture” was talked about. Sure those on the inside see it as an absolutely fantastic place to work, but the reality for more that half is the opposite,
dreading each Monday.

Your current employment status doesn’t define you as a person, stay strong!

Hang in there, OP. Hopefully, you received a decent severance that will give you some breathing room.

There’s no shame in being laid off. For a lot of people, not being “visible to management” because they were busy doing actual work was their only failing.

@hsr+198iljPI True that, I don't believe the recent layoff was based of performance alone. Sadly many talented people were impacted despite being strong contributors, while many slackers continue to hold fort. In a highly political and toxic environment, straight trees are always cut first.

Thank you ! I sincerely do hope that things get better for everyone impacted by the recent study and hopefully better opportunities come our way.

While I wasn't impacted, the lack of transparency where this forum and others became my go to source of information, a rebranded c-appy padp and the overall direction of the company/ EM I am feeling deflated and am looking to actively leave.

My motivation is at an all time low, passions have fizzled and IOLs mismanagement by levels of leadership so far out of touch with reality will be the reasons for my hopefully future exit.

Best of luck everyone! #bellletstalk

I'm in the same boat as you, and going through the same thing. When I get upset on how pathetic this last PDS turned out, I am just thankful I am out of this company. If I s—ed at my job that much how'd I get 4 different managers reach out to me and offer to help with a reference letter or to find a job? Makes no sense.

I don't have great advice for you, other than letting you know you aren't alone with your emotions. It's an awfully tough time out there in general. On days I feel full of despair or anger, I look for the silver linings in life and all the things to be grateful for. Hope one day we can look back on this and think, that worked out for the better. Good luck!

Have you taken advantage of the outsourcing program as part of the severance package?
