Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

I'm hearing demotions

No layoff, but they're going to demote people. Does that help morale? No. It makes it worse. WTF? Who are you over privileged white a–holes that live a lifestyle beyond the average worker? Do you see yourself as that special and privileged? Your day will come. Mark my words. Nike is done, dying and over under this leadership. Maybe that's the end game and about lining financial pockets. And when I say WHITE, it's obvious. God Bless! And Thank You for the Good Times! Adidas, I'm looking to you.

They are also “promoting” some and giving them the work of those laid off...but giving 2%-3% raise. Good luck to those k–ling them selves to do your normal job plus laid off people job just for 3%.

Seriously, this is getting so ridiculous and I just tired of it. Has anyone seen a lower morale than we are now at Nike? The lack of true leadership and vision at Nike is astonishing.

I have seen three people get demoted from E to U. There were too many directors and they didn’t have direct reports is the thinking. Yes those people took a pay cut, band cut meaning bonus rate or a package.

From "inside the berm" I do not see any race-specific issues.
I do see a consistent issue with favoritism and rules applying to everyone except friends of key contacts across the organization.
The internal culture of the technology department has been steadily decreasing over the past year as the new management has started bringing in his people and setting policies. It is very unclear whether there is an active effort to encourage attrition or if it is due to poor leadership.

Ok, can someone please share more on these demotions? Are we talking debanding from S to E? E to U? U to L?

Meanwhile this "portal" that is supposed to help us with office gear has yet to appear. I can't write off all the money I've spent on setting up a home office or get reimbursed, and now there's rumors of debanding people? This is ridiculous.

If there are demotions to come, the intent is clear. Give people a reason to want to leave on their own instead of laying them off and having to pay them severance. Personally, if I get demoted that is just fine by me because that will allow me to seriously start looking for a new position, secure one, and then leave. Win-win! Do not just resign if you get demoted before you land another job.

What is the point of all of this? What are you going to do about it? Do you just want to complain? Fine....just say it then...what is the point?

Are you people in the comments serious!? Nike is absolutely run by white men. Even where they have put people of color or women, the white men still have the power and the say. Don’t kid yourself. And none of this hit the upper echelon. They did all these layoffs and demotions and no one at the senior vp level got touched. They moved things around and got rid of anyone who might threaten them. I understand the OP’s feelings totally and if you happen to be in a department that isn’t like that then count yourself lucky but look above your department and what do you see!?

Your salary is going to pay Colin Kaepernick and Lebron James, who make far more off of Nike than any executive.

Unless you're working in a sweatshop somewhere in Indonesia for $2 an hour, you're a privileged and overpaid a-hole who is living a lifestyle beyond the average worker. The average Mexican worker is in the world's top 20%. You're only looking up, envious of those you perceive to be "rich", when you're living it up with a silver spoon yourself, profiting off the backs of the world's poor.
