Today I told my boss that I was so frustrated I referred to him with profanity. They will probably run to Hr and fire me. Got my bachelor's and mba at verizon and still could not get promoted.

All I can say is that for a lot of people, "be yourself" is the worst possible advice that can be given.
When I first started with Verizon I was told constantly to change myself and become the cookie cutter version of the other people around me that were in higher positions. After wasting so much time trying to be someone else in effort to get promoted by the very ones that told me to change, it is no longer the message the company sends, but the roadblocks are still there. I’ve also seen those people put their weight behind employees that played them. Be yourself. Verizon has provided us with a ton of marketable skills. Anyone that isn’t developing employees is a manager not a leader anyway.
To be honest I'm just about to the point where I don't work for my monthly bills. My cars my house everything are paid for. All I want to be is a service to those around me I used to be an e-commerce director in the automobile industry. wanted more time with the family so 5 years ago I became a sales rep because you can make 70k a year and have a good work life balance. The same willingness to speak up and disagree that made me so much money in the car business has stopped my upwards mobility at verizon. Every GM has told me I need to prove myself to him. Why do you know them have to prove themselves to me? Now taking a few more courses so I can go become a CPA was hoping to have Verizon pay for all of it before I get fired.
if you're in a solutions specialist role and you have more than 2.5 years with Verizon... shame on you for missing the growth opportunities in front of you. The only people that have valid excuses to complain are SM's and above that were actually doing something with their career. Solutions Specialist is an entry-level position.
Lol you ain’t getting fired unless you fight a customer. Even then you would go on a written
People are always confusing credentials with marketable skills.
^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^^
and it's great if you have both
People are always confusing credentials with marketable skills. Of course a manager is going to promote and hire those who they favor, who wants to work with people they dislike or will get them fired? If the people who raised you didn't teach you that getting along well with those responsible for your promotions, pay, and job status, they failed.
So you kissed the right a$$? Sad but so true, if you are not one of the favored ones you could be einstein and still not get promoted. That's one thing I could never see myself doing. You have to wake up in the morning and look yourself and the mirror and lie to yourself that it's okay that you s— a$$ for that almight dollar.
I got promoted to director and all I have is a GED. It is all about kissing the right a$$!
