Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Worst Thing ....

Not knowing why you were chosen to exit even when no sign should be you. Ask and it's just the way it lined up. That's maybe acceptable to you all on the other side of the desk, but to us individually chosen to leave...it's just wrong. It won't change your mind we get that. It will help us understand and heal. For a company that has cared and said for years it did, why end it that way for me specifically? The phenomenal feedback I got this year alone from my leadership doesn't even make sense.

2013 and I was traveling to customer sites. saw a mtg on my calendar i didnt see before, with boss and declined as I was supposed to be in a mtg. Was on the way into an army base for the mtg when boss txt'd "you need to be on." I txted back, "No, in mtg with new customer I'd been chasing for 6 mo's" he txted back "Cancel the mtg." Almost said F you, not doing that and something clicked. took the call - Boss and an HR person were on the call. Boss intro'd the HR person, read something about stack rankings and i was below the cut then left the call when i asked him to re-read it. Terrible experience that proved Vz doesnt care. Found a job back with the markets & still here but wiser. looking out for #1, my loyalty is shot - what have you done for me lately goes both ways. but this co still pays stupid $$$ to the right jobs so not looking to leave. take every benefit you can, look if you have combined years of svc/age to officially "retire".

Someone already hit the nail on the head with this but the posts keep getting deleted. I believe they said something to the effect that if your teeth were long you were a good candidate to get bounced. Of course having a higher salary or pay scale go hand in hand with the age factor .

Sorry this happened to you but let this be a lesson to everyone else.

Your employer doesn't care about you. Your boss might. But the company doesn't. To the VPs and SVPs that make layoffs decisions, you are just another commodity and expense to be managed.

Sometimes they let go of people that are in bad standing with DM as well. Not to say that’s what happened with you but it happened in my area.

Company has been moving out highest salary lowest productivity employees for years. Lower operating expenses while increasing productivity. Having said this, mgmt is dishonest when explaining why each employee is let go. Expect new hires not to be hired based on performance but hiring metrics based on minority status to fit into new political culture. Get a 23 and Me test and hope you get a surprise, like a toy in a CrackerJack box, which will allow you to check some of these boxes on the EEOC disclosures on the careers sire. Good luck!
