Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

Would you leave money on the table to go work somewhere else?

I know quite a few people who have given up unvested RSUs to take opportunities outside of Truist.

Not sure I would do that unless I was blown away by an offer.

As horrible as working here can be, I just can’t see leaving that on the table unless I was so psychologically and emotionally drained.

YES, I would and did.
I left a significant amount of RSUs on the table when I left BB&T.
(The awards added up to more than a year's salary.)
It was a tough pill to swallow, but worth it.
My blood pressure is back to normal and I have a higher paying job that I love at an amazing company.
(Side Note: I had always planned to retire from BB&T and worked hard to earn that. If I was down-sized in the merger, I would have been more than happy with the severance as RSUs automatically vest. Mysteriously, I started getting written up for random things... and that is when I decided to look around. Three weeks later, I accepted an amazing offer at a competitor.)

If you found another job, and told them you had RSU's they would offer to compensate you for the money you left behind. If they didn't, that's a good indication that you probably didn't deserve the RSUs in the first place. It's absolute truth that BBT offers RSUs as a handcuff not a reward. But fear of losing RSUs and Pensions has backfired and BBT is now staffed with underqualified overpaid employees who will do anything to cling to their job...because they are unemployable outside the bubble.

RSUs are fool's gold. They are provided to stop you from leaving, not to reward.

Think about what those RSUs are worth (in today's dollars), how long until they mature and then do the math. What if you left and went to another company that was paying a 15% better salary, yearly raises and better incentives? Would you be better off?

Lost Opportunity Cost.

Leave with a job not without. It’s been 6 months with no job for me.
