Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Did we just become part of indirect? I know what was said.. but what happened?

So got a new DM coming from indirect. Sounds like he is over 45 indirects and 5 directs in our part of territory... when you look at those numbers... definitely wasn't direct absorbing indirect, quite the opposite.. still employed by VZW but where are we headed? Is next step to basically divest of all stores making everyone indirect employees with zero retail corporate employees? That's the only outcome I can see when I look at it... my last location was divested to indirect 6 months ago, now we are all merging?

Was part of layoff. I have been in Indirect majority of my tenure of several years. Half of the retail and indirect teams were let go. Merging retail and indirect, some Corp stores will close, focus is on moving all sales to indirect, website, and telesales. As for Business sales I feel it's also combining eventually.

To the post about our company name changing to cellco on our paychecks, it has been that way the past 8 years I have been with the company. Nothing major there, you just didn’t notice it prior.

@jqz+192eTj3n It’s been Cellco Partnership on the paystubs for years.

Recently they changed the Employer name on our paystubs. (From Verizon Wireless to Cellco)
Wouldn’t be surprised, at this point. We’re seen as numbers and not people, by these multi billion dollar companies.

Yeah that lays it out.. I guess I was just not seeing the forest for the trees. I knew the goal was smaller overhead through reducing brick and mortar and pushing indirect and self serve. I just didn't see that it would be done by making me into an indirect employee basically first and then saying choose, stay as indirect or go... I guess I expected it to be done through closures and then indirect taking over the location... as in youre gone but now go apply there... it is 2 different things, one of which pays much less severance out.

Jesus Christ. The DM was an indirect DM in the sense that she/he was over indirect account managers. The AM’s support the doors. The agent employees have their own leadership to which they report. They do not report to VZ employees. Look up co-employment if you still aren’t getting it. Today, both retail and and indirect DM’s have taken the role of consumer DM’s, meaning their direct reports are both GM’s and account managers. I’m going to say put this out there because it’s obvious people just don’t get it:

You. Will. Never. Merge. With. An. Agent. Company.

Let me sum it up.

This is not a merger, this an engineered process to convert all corporate locations into indirect.

Talent is being mixed at mid levels, to train each other.

Here is a good post that outlines what is happening.
