Verizon randomly announced its consolidating their company by reducing amount of store managers, district managers, etc.
They’ve already changed commission structure which deters employees from striving to perform.
They are making drastic changes and using COVID as the excuse.
Verizon’s 5G is far behind other carriers, how they treat employees just dropped significantly, I think it’s safe to say TMobile is now the industry leader
Verizon prides itself on being a grey employer however they are eliminating and downsizing and trying to stay out of the media during the process.
Forbes ranked Verizon as the best employer during COVID , once they got that award they went the opposite way and k–led the culture of Verizon

- S. Estimates are that VZ just dropped upward of $40B on the spectrum auction. Guess how they will pay for that long term?
Anyone who thinks these layoffs are covid related.. you are mostly wrong.
Covid allowed the company to make moves quickly and cut services and standards under the impression it was covid related.
The lay offs will get worse soon. This has been years in the making, bad business moves, greed and just downright bad management.
The current upper management are all hench men and women. They are in their positions to cut cut cut.. they will be gone once they k–l the soul of the company and they know it.
I haven't heard one thing the company said that inferred any reductions in force were due to Covid. In fact they went out of their way when things shut down to shift employees to home based work.
I know you are all ticked off right now, but what's going on now is normal reductions in operating costs, the highest being employees. Verizon has been doing this for more years than I care to count. Any healthy business is always trying to gain efficiencies and reduce redundancies. This time it was on the Consumer side of the business.
The most recent layoffs are no different than the massive IT outsourcing that occurred 2 years ago. A couple thousand people were told to go work for a foreign company or take a hike. The # of people they wanted out of the business that year was way too high for a normal layoff, hence the VSP.
Former employee here and I didn't work in the retail space, but even I could see the writing on the wall with this one. Sorry guys, but know there is life after VZ.
- S. The media doesn't care.
Allstate left Sears in 1995. No one under 35 even remembers that they used to be the same company, just salty boomers who think "technology hard".
If you don't believe me, here is some insight.

There is more to 5G than just cell towers. And to be more accurate, cell towers are only a minor component in a 5G network. 5G is about reductions in people and equipment...it has very little to do with end users getting service.
If you honestly believe that Verizon is behind on 5G, you are absolutely incorrect. Verizon is likely leaps and bounds ahead of it's competitors. Specifically in virtualization and fiber.
Using covid as an excuse? no way... impossible.. hearsay,,,,,, blasphemy!...... dang the truth is not convenient at all is it.
Sounds like the media need to be tipped off about the bloodbath yesterday.
